  • Quiet back-to-basics site on a working farm in Illogan
  • Golf course, trampoline park and watersports lake within 20 minutes
  • 10 minutes' walk from village pubs and 45 from Portreath beach
A working farm on the edge of a Cornwall village, with easy access to country footpaths and a 45-minute saunter from the beach… the kind of place one could settle in for a lifetime, eh? The folks at Hillcrest Views Campsite certainly think so – the family set up home here over 80 years ago and haven’t budged since. Current owner Amy’s now welcoming guests to share in her tribe’s special spot while making sure it doesn’t lose its peaceful vibe – thus the small site has pleasingly spacious pitches but only basic amenities. Flick through the pics and you’ll note some gorgeous rural views: a fab backdrop for stoking up a barbecue while the kids race about playing games. Admire those views for a bit and you’ll probably think you’re in the middle of nowhere, so it’s pleasing to remember that you’re a mere 10-minute amble from Illogan village and its pub, shops and chippy (plus a pasty shop, of course – a staple in these parts). If you’re doing DIY dins, supermarket supplies for your meals can be picked up in Redruth, 10 minutes’ drive away. You could spend many a day wandering on local trails and beaches, but if you’ve brought the kids it’s handy to know that you’re less than 15 minutes’ drive from all sorts of family attractions, including a castle, a trampoline park and a watersports centre. It’s also just a mile or so to the A30 for those looking to head to more far-flung attractions like St Ives or the Eden Project.

What customers say

This neat site's got ample, private spots with ripper views. Campers rave about the super clean loos and showers – spotless & well-stocked. Amy and Roger are legends for their friendly, helpful service. Most love the quiet, but a few heard workshops or had bother with facility lights. Perfect base for Cornwall!

Fully-serviced grass and gravel caravan site

Liked Spotlessly clean facilities, neat and tidy level pitches, views spectacular but only from the right spots.

Disliked No views from our pitch apart from hedges, very noisy work going on in the farmyard/barn, if you are pitched by the toilet block then the evening is accompanied by the constant flushing of the toilets.
The booking system gives a choice of pitches for motorhomes but doesn't say what the differences are - both were on gravel and with electric. We chose the one that also allows caravans. I think the one that also allows tents would have been better.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you very much for your custom and your review. All feedback is helpful to us so we really appreciate your comments and we can reflect on these to see if improvements can be made with future developments.

To clarify on pitch types the fully serviced touring pitches (4 in our paddock and 2 in our meadow) have gravel on the left hand side so are suitable for all touring vehicles, and include astro-turf strips for awnings. The 2 pitches that are allocated as fully serviced motorhome, campervan or tents (in our meadow) have gravel on the right hand side which does not suit UK caravans with doors on the left and, have no astro-turf for awnings. You are correct though that they all have electric, grey waste and water on them and this is included in the price. I will check that our pitch descriptions reflect this to help reduce any confusion.

We send you our best wishes for the rest of your summer.

Chiara B.

Unpowered grass tent site (two person, no pets, no cars)

Liked Amy made me feel welcome right away. She asked me whether I wanted my phone to be charged and if I could use a chair. I was really thankful for this, especially after a long day of hiking.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you very much Chiara for your custom and your lovely review and feedback. It was lovely meeting you and I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay. The chairs are magic after a long days hike so you are most welcome for this. Sending you our best wishes for a great remainder of your travels.

JAMES H.

Power optional grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked Couldn't praise this site enough! From the moment of arrival to our last morning we couldn't find a single thing to fault.

Amy and Roger were brilliant people who made us feel welcome and at home and made the stay so much more memorable.

Location was very central to both north and south coasts of Cornwall, the views were fantastic on the site and the pitches were some of the best we have ever stayed in, private, sheltered and a very generous amount of space.

Facilities were on point and always clean and I believe more will be added in the future which is a bonus.

Just a little note on Roger (site warden who lives on the site in his van), it was lovely getting to know him. He has time for everyone and is always on hand to answer questions or help in anyway. He really did add that little bit extra to our stay at Hillcrest.

Already considering returning sooner rather than later but will certainly be back at some point in the future!

Chris F.

Power optional grass tent, campervan or trailer tent site

Liked Stayed for 4 nights with my dog Charlie and absolutely loved it. The site is immaculate. So clean and tidy. Roger and Amy do an amazing job keeping it spotless. Pitches have hedges on 3 sides so are nice and private. Beautiful views across a valley at the bottom of the paddock as well. It’s a nice peaceful site with not too many pitches but plenty of room for kids to play in the middle of the paddock. Great location for places like St Ives and Gwithian. It’s a no frills site. Just toilets, showers and washing up station but that’s what I liked about it. You can hire a fire pit or take your own and wood is also available to and it’s not too expensive. I was also really impressed with the price I paid for the 4 nights. Much cheaper than other sites in the area. Overall the perfect weekend in my favourite part of the country. I will 100% be staying there again.

Disliked I’ve seen a few other reviews moaning about the garage nearby revving car engines all day. I only heard it twice in 4 days and it really didn’t bother me at all. It only lasted a couple of seconds.

From the manager: Chris...what a lovely review! Thank you so much. It was so lovely meeting yourself and Charlie and hearing about your stories and adventures. You are doing great work and I commend you for that! Thank you very much for your custom and we look forward to seeing you again. All the best for a great summer in the meantime.
