Situated in the scenic Kent village of Detling, this family-focused campsite is a great place for all the family to escape the stresses and strains of everyday life and to reconnect with nature and each other. Surrounded by a protected woodland and with an abundance of trails to explore, it's easy to stretch your legs at Oak View Holiday Park and find space for your kids and/or dogs to let off some steam. Oak View Holiday Park is located right next to the Kent Showground, making this site an excellent option for attending the varied and numerous events and shows that run here throughout the year. Other top-notch attractions like Leeds Castle (10 minutes' drive) and Maidstone (10 minutes) are also easy to access. Guests staying here have access to modern and well-maintained bathroom and shower blocks (with separate male, female and disabled areas). Other handy on-site amenities include a laundry room, washing-up areas, waste disposal points and a pet shower, all of which are kept spick and span by the campsite team. Please note that only only gas, electric or charcoal barbecues are allowed, and open campfires and firepits are not permitted.

  • Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • At least one of the party members must be aged 25 or over.
  • A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.
  • 10kWh per day of electricity is included. Additional usage is metered at £0.35 per kWh and can be purchased from the office on site.

Great spot, clean, friendly staff, plenty of space. Lovely woodland, good facilities. Close to walks and attractions. A bit of road noise and patchy WiFi, shops are a decent hike. Highly recommended, many keen to return.

Liked We love this site and have stayed here a few times. Its only around an hour from home but is very peaceful and has a lovely woodland area to walk the dogs or just explore by yourself. It has a few service areas around the site but as it was winter only 1 or the service areas was available. This was absolutely fine with us as it was not that far from where we were set up. You will need a decent torch for early morning or late night if it's dark as there is very little lighting. We like this as no light pollution! Ruth is very helpful and very friendly. We will definitely be back!

Disliked Not really a dislike but if you are someone who need wifi or phone signal then beware. We are both on O2 and our phones worked on and off but quite slow due to lack of signal. There is wifi at the site but only the pitches near to the reception block seem to be able to get signal (we have been close to reception before and used the wifi but this time we were further away and it wouldn't work).

Disliked All but one service area closed in winter so can be a fair walk with water containers if not on wheels.

We apologise for there only being one service point open. We do shut the bottom ones during the winter as they tend to freeze. We normally do put our customers at the top of the park and nearer to the open service points as much as possible when it is cold and dark, but as you were late in, we put you on pitch 16 as it was an easier one to find with the map and late arrivals email. We do appreciate that this was a long way to walk but would have been happy to move you closer had you asked.

Route directions

The site is just off the A249, within 2 miles of the M20 (Junction 7) and 5 miles off the M2 (Junction 5). The best postcode to follow using a satnav is ME14 3HB as using the postcode takes you on a longer route. Heading from the M20 Junction 7, drive along the A249 to the top of Detling Hill. As you approach the top you will pass a layby and a sign for Bredhurst. Turn left along the road to Bredhurst; this is Scragged Oak Road. The park is 500 yards along the road on the left marked with a large green sign. Please do not turn up Pilgrims Way.

Local attractions

Oak View Holiday Park is in prime position to traverse the best of Kent's countryside, coast, castles and well-known gardens – with Essex and its coast easily accessible too just to the north. Plenty of pedalling and perambulating opportunities are around the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, such as the 153-mile route of the North Downs National Trail through from Farnham to Canterbury, passing the White Cliffs of Dover. This takes in the 119-mile Pilgrims' Way, the supposed route of Thomas Becket from Winchester to Canterbury Cathedral. Elsewhere in Kent, loads is on all year round in the 500 acres of parkland and formal gardens at lovely Leeds Castle (10 minutes’ drive), like free falconry displays, play areas, special events and making one's way intrepidly out of the castle maze. Also see Rochester Castle (20 minutes) on the east bank of the Medway for its 12th-century keep and stacks of historical info: the castle was sacked during the Peasants' Revolt, held for Henry III against the barons, and besieged (also because of barons) by bad King John. And of course, just next door is the Kent Showground, which hosts all sorts of events throughout the year (the most famed being the Kent County Show, which usually runs for three days in July).
