This is such a pretty site – tucked in a quiet glen beside an unruffled duck pond, and embraced by bluebell woods full of red squirrels, badgers and woodpeckers – that you may never want to leave this peaceful little wildlife haven… But when you do manage to drag yourself away from Ninham Country Holidays, it’s just a short ride through gorgeous countryside to the safe, sandy beaches Shanklin and Sandown Bay. The Orchard pitching area has spacious, level landscaped pitches divided by hedging and mature specimen trees. Guests have access to modern bathroom facilities, with renewable technologies such as solar water heating and rainwater harvested flushing toilets. There's also an outdoor heated swimming pool at this park (open late May to early September, and operated on a regulated booking system). TV and games rooms are also on hand for keeping the kids busy in mid and high-season periods. A firm emphasis is placed on being nature-friendly, and all guests are expected to adhere to a strict recycling policy and the countryside code. Please note: well-behaved dogs are accepted for most of the year, but not during the school summer holidays. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times on site.

A ripper spot! Peaceful, tidy as, with heaps of space. Staff are deadset legends, the pool's a treat. Great for families, good value, you'll wanna come back. Signage and the track can be a bit tricky for bikes though.

Liked The site is vey spacious with large pitches, the swimming pool is amazing, very clean and a bonus facility on a campsite. The staff are lovely and very helpful, we decided to extend our stay and thankfully didn’t have to move pitches and they reorganised our ferry tickets. The site is in a great location, close to a Morrisons and easy access to the islands attractions.

Disliked Tractors with trailers were going through the site as early as 5am, even on a Saturday which were very loud and woke everyone up but you got used to it.
A communal fridge would be a great addition.

Orchard powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked What an absolutely beautiful campsite. The pitches were large and spaced well. The grounds were well kept, it was very tidy. The shower block was very clean and lots of showers and toilets so no need to wait. The washing up area was also very clean and tidy, everyone kept it clean and rinsed the sinks after use. There was plenty of hot water for washing up too. The ice block hire for 50p was great. We didn't have children, but there was a lovely play area and games room, plus a swimming pool you could book. We were in the Orchard so it was lovely to have the shade of some trees. There is no shop or clubhouse onsite so we felt it made the campsite more peaceful, but Lidl and Morrisons are a 15 minute walk or couple of minutes drive.
We decided not to use the car for the 5 day stay and instead used the Bridle paths to walk to Lidl and Shanklin, including Shanklin Beach. (about 40 mins to the beach). A 15-20 walk along the Bridle path took us to the train station where we picked up a bus to explore the Island more. The bus service was great with buses going every 30 minutes in various directions. We will definitely be returning.

Liked Location was good for bus travel (20 minute walk on public footpath to busstop or Shanklin). Facilities good. Quiet location.

Disliked Difficult as backpacker to get to reception to check in. Unless you know in advance to get bus to Morrisons and walk public footpath for 20 minutes fully loaded to get to tent site, drop tent then walk back opposite direction to Reception to check in, it is easier to get expensive taxi from Newport. Worse if you have roll along bag as 1km gravel driveway and walk in road from Sandown Airport bus stop. Problem would be part alleviated by having a trolley with large wheels (like in boatyards) by the front gate to put your gear in and wheel to reception. Plus, better footpath information required for first time backpackers.

Liked Fantastic campsite , large pitches , plenty of open space, excellent facilities with numerous showers, toilets etc. Outdoor pool, games n tv rooms . Going to book for next year and take my grandson , the IOWis very child friendly.

Liked We had a quiet field pitch which was pretty and peaceful. Shower/toilet block had really decent sized showers - all kept very clean. The pool was quite large, clean and not cold with seating around. We absolutely loved it and will definitely stay again.

Liked Possibly my favourite site!
It is in a beautiful parkland setting, the staff are amazingly friendly and helpful, the pitches are a good size, the toilets and showers are spacious and immaculate, and the pool and playground are charming.
Well done!

Although the shops are in walking distance it would be great to have some farm shop type provisions available so you don't have to leave the sanctuary of the site!!

Route directions

Use PO36 9PJ to find the site - the drive is off the Newport Rd A3056. Arrivals from the Newport Rd: go past the park entrance and drive 400 metres to the supermarket roundabout. Turn back and continue up to the private lane (located on the left). From Ryde take the A3055 and turn onto the A3056 at Lake. Continue for 1km, passing the supermarket; the site drive is 400 metres up on the left. 10mph please on all the site's access roads.

The plentiful cycle tracks and footpaths mean it’s easy to start exploring the Isle of Wight’s diverse terrain of hills, woodland and white cliffs framing golden beaches. Not for nothing is this called the Garden Isle: Mediterranean plants thrive in the mild climate, and visitors can expect to spot a wide range of wildlife around and about. It’s no wonder Queen Victoria and her brood decamped here so frequently from smelly London (visitors can check out their seaside digs at Osborne House). Natural attractions aside, the island offers great watersports from its lovely beaches, as well as all manner of other athletic activities, and sights to suit all tastes. Culture vultures should try Carisbrooke Castle or one of the many museums, dinosaur hunters can track down the great beasts that used to roam the shores, fledgling zoologists will enjoy the many animal-based attractions, and that’s before we even get started on the scenic steam railway, glorious botanic gardens or rip-roaring theme parks…
