  • Cosy family-run and dog-friendly site in the Cotswolds
  • A 15-minute drive from Blenheim Palace; 25 minutes to Stow-on-the-Wold
  • Barbecues and firepits allowed; access to footpaths and bridleways
After a cosy spot somewhere in the Cotswolds? Historic houses, museums and market towns are out in full force around the cosy Cotswolds Camping in its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty six miles from Chipping Norton… to be exact, this family-run site is 15 minutes' drive away from Blenheim Palace and within striking distance of many characteristic Cotswolds trails. At the same time, Oxfordshire is the other way and Oxford itself is just 15 minutes’ train journey away from Charlbury Station (five minutes’ drive). As for those of you with a soft spot for a hardcore shopping trip, you won’t be left in the lurch here, as Bicester Village has a shopping outlet 35 minutes’ drive away and Stratford-upon-Avon is 45 minutes’ drive away for handsome riverside scenes and independent shops. Now, how about those hiking shoes? Well, the site has access to fancy footpaths, bridleways and woodland walks, so you’ll be able to get right to the rambling. You might want to stop by the local village, Charlbury, on your way around the local area, as there are food shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants here, all within walking distance of the site. And don’t worry, you’ll be able to carry the good time onto the site, as barbecues and firepits are both permitted – the same for dogs. As for the facilities you’ll have on hand, these include a play area, shower, toilets and a dishwashing area to help you deal with any dirty pots and pans.

What customers say

Great spot for Cotswolds exploring, with roomy sites & helpful staff. Cafe and playground get a thumbs up. A few mention cleaning hiccups with loos/showers during peak times, and wish for more facilities. Management's on it with upgrades.

Liked A Lovely Site! Great location, liked that there were separate camping fields so didn’t feel too huge, showers and loos always nice and clean and functioned well. They have a cute bar there that wasn’t open while we were there but we’ll definitely be back there.

Disliked Nothing, all good

Liked Location, staff, and facilities were all really good! Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was just what we needed it to be.

Disliked Not a dislike but the showers weren't the best only because you had to keep pressing it to get the water to come out

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: The dreaded push button showers, we actually have to fit them as we often find unsupervised children will leave the showers running for fun otherwise. If you go camping a lot, there are products on the market which clamp over the push button so you don't need to press it so often. Thankyou for your review

Unpowered grass tent site (small)

Liked Quiet field, friendly staff and nice to have a bar on premise for the evenings. Also had freezers and fridges which was amazing.

Disliked The non eletric pitches are away from the main field and facilities , as such a toillet or porty potty closer would be amazing

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review Arjan, whilst it would be nicer to get some toilets closer to the front field, i have personally never been in a porta loo which smelt nice hahaha its something to think about for the future. we were going to put a woodfired sauna by the front field this year, alongside a cold plunge. I will see if a toilet could potentially be added.

Liked Great location and facilities, would book again

Disliked Wood pigeons plenty loud enough - not much chance of a lie in but thats just Oxfordshire in general apparently, also quite a few campers returning late so you hear them on the track nearby

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thankyou for your review, we have a whole plethora of wildlife at the campsite. I know the pigeons can be a little loud sometimes. This year we are actually removing the gravel track and adding a smoother tarmac track, that will reduce dust and noise

Great site, must visit and will be back for sure!

Liked The only thing that was good was the lady's in the cafe bar that isn't directly linked to the campsite

Disliked Showers were disgusting mould all round the seals toilets never had loo roll in them and stunk horrible . We were sent a list of rules for the camp site which were a waste of time because everyone just ignored them and did what they wanted. We payed £84 for 2 nights only stopped 1 I would say it wasn't worth £20 a night . Tge warden just sat around bever did anything . The best thing about thus campsite was the road out

Local attractions

Trail time? You might want to begin with the Roman Fosse Way, passing by the towns of Stow-on-the-Wold (25 minutes' drive) and Moreton-in-Marsh (25 minutes). Or from Lechlade-on-Thames (half an hour), perhaps you'll roll right on to the Thames Path, if you’re not drawn into the water with watersports such as canoeing. Characterful towns and villages are a Cotswolds staple and it shows… Burford (15 minutes) is boxed full of unusual shops, pubs and tea rooms, while in Witney (20 minutes), you’ve got classic entertainment courtesy of a multi-screen cinema, shops and leisure centre mixed in with markets and the historic Cogges Manor Farm. In Woodstock (15 minutes) there’s more history inside The Oxfordshire Museum. Like Chipping Norton (10 minutes), the place has a swimming pool, shops, pubs and tea rooms galore, to add to Chipping Norton’s theatre and cinema. Historic are many of the houses around here, and that includes the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blenheim Palace (15 minutes), the Jacobean Chastleton House (20 minutes) and or the 18th-century Buscot Park (35 minutes). For more activities in the throw of it all, there’s Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (25 minutes) and Bourton-on-the-Water’s equestrian centre, brewery and motoring museum (half an hour).
