Campers at the fire pit
Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

  • Secluded grass pitches at a Herefordshire family smallholding
  • A 10-minute drive from Ross-on-Wye and close to Forest of Dean
  • Feed the animals, collect eggs and build dens in the woods
Head down a Herefordshire country lane, cross a little stable yard and out into the paddocks, and you’ll come to the camping field at Little Bull Hill. Easily accessed from the M50 and a 10-minute drive from Ross-on-Wye, it's a fab base for exploring the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. There’s lots of helpful kit in the stable yard kitchen to help you prep your meals (which you might like to cook over the firepit provided). This includes a fridge-freezer and sockets to charge your devices, plus charcoal and firewood available for an additional fee. Guests also have access to a toilet and shower with plenty of hot water. As for getting out and about, it’s all about the outdoor activities: wild swimming, riding, canoeing and mountain biking are all popular picks around here (and there’s bike storage and a wash-down area on site to help with this last one). Friendly owner Emma is on hand to point you in the direction of good places to go, and she’s happy for kids to build dens in the woods or get stuck in with helping to feed the smallholding’s animals (ponies, horses and chickens) or collect eggs from the free-roaming chickens.

100% would recommend this campground to a friend

100% would stay here again

What customers say

This cosy, quiet park's got a ripper host and a top-notch kitchen/showers. Plenty of room for kids, and the resident horses are a big hit. Some sites are a bit steep, and while the single loo/shower worked, more are planned. Neighbouring park noise bothered one group.

Unpowered grass and earth site

Liked Emma was a very helpful friendly host. Loved the kitchen facilities and use of power points. Bathroom facilities clean and good.
Thoughtful touches like fire pits and pub garden tables.
Lovely to see the horses and feel immersed in nature (lots of owls).

Disliked The only drawback was that there was just 1 toilet. But only 4 pitches in use so just needed to be patient.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Yes there are a lot of owls around at the moment.
They’re great to listen to in the evening. So glad you enjoyed the tranquility.
You’ll be pleased to know we are now 2 toilets 🎉. Our compost loo is up and running near the camping field. We plan another shower and flushing loo first next season !

Highly recommend

Unpowered grass and earth site

Liked We loved everything about this campsite. Great location, beautiful quiet site with easy access to woods and lanes for walking and biking. Wonderful facilities with everything you could need, including washing machine. And Emma was a great host, good communication, really friendly and a huge bonus was our daughter getting to groom the ponies. We will definitely be back.

Disliked Nothing

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Wow ! Thank you 🤩 it’s really great that you enjoyed your stay. There is plenty to explore straight from the site if you’re walking or biking. The ponies are always a winner, I’m happy for children to safely help with the chores 🧹 Hope to see you all back again next season !

Unpowered grass and earth site

Liked *Small campsite with only a few pitches so plenty of room and reasonably quiet.
*Daughter enjoyed the seat swing, seeing the horses - would’ve loved a campfire too but couldn’t because of the very dry conditions (understandable at the moment).
*Lovely little kitchen with everything we needed.
*Good, clear communication from host prior to stay.
*Clear skies for stargazing!

Disliked *1 toilet and 1 shower - would be good to have a few more (read in other reviews that this is the plan)
*Several dogs barking in nearby fields quite early in the morning (appreciate farms nearby)
*Clearer rules regarding music/noise later into the evening would be good when making booking.

From the manager: Thank you for the review, I’m pleased you enjoyed your stay. The dark sky’s are a fabulous opportunity to stargaze. There can be a short wait for the loo and shower weekend mornings when the site is full (6pitches ) I’m pleased to announce 🎉 that there is now a new compost loo next to the camping field .
I purposely don’t have advertised rules. I tailor any suggestions to guests on arrival. I’m sorry if your evening was disturbed. I have found guests to be very respectful of their fellow campers.. but I will be mindful of your feedback. Emma.

From the manager: So pleased you liked our site. Yes it’s in a great position to visit lots of l great places locally.
We run 6 pitches and when we are full on weekends there is sometimes a short wait for the loo and shower. We have just installed a new compost toilet near the camping field. We aim to add to facilities for next season, for ease of our guests.

Liked An excellent campsite! Small but perfect. Superb kitchen facilities, hot shower, beautiful views. Spotless toilet, sink and shower. Enthusiastic friendly owner who showed us around the stables and was great with kids. Emma showed my niece how to brush and comb the horses. Recycling which is always good to see.

Disliked Nothing to dislike!

Unpowered grass and earth site

Liked Very quiet/sleepy campsite, fantastic communal kitchen space and facilities (washing machine, crockery, microwave etc), nice warm shower. Very clean. Safe for the children to run wild. Can only have a few tents/vans as it’s on a slope

Disliked Very uneven surface (field previously used for horses). Only 1 toilet and 1 shower (Plans to extend)
