South Whittlieburn Farm

Μου άρεσε Simple, relaxed campsite. Plenty of space and options for where to pitch. Plenty of clean facilities for washing, showering, toilet. Donkeys, chickens and goats wandering among the tents might have bothered some people, I guess, but I didn't mind it.

Δεν μου άρεσε The only thing I didn't like were the bright lights in the toilet during the night: when it's dark I like it to be dark! But that's just me, I guess :)

Μου άρεσε The views were lovely and the facilities were very clean! Katie was really welcoming when we arrived too. The site is 5 minutes’ drive to Largs which is a beautiful little town to visit!

Δεν μου άρεσε There’s a 60mph road separating the hardstanding pitches and the rest of the site, with no gates or barriers - absolute no-go for us with little ones in tow. There was lots of dog poo along the walkers’ path which we suspected may have been from the site owners’ dogs as we saw someone ride off on a farm quad with 4 dogs following behind (no leads) right down the path and then return 5 minutes later with no poo bags! Possible coincidence, but nevertheless, watch your step if you’re off on a walk!
Also, we knocked at reception 3 times (to ask if the children could collect eggs) and nobody answered. When we found a member of staff later on, she said the hens hadn’t been laying for months, so maybe an update on pitchup needed.

Μου άρεσε Location, close to Largs and in a nice peaceful countryside setting.
Pitches, large and with flexibility, so able to pitch next to friends.
Plenty of availability of electric hook up pitches.
Toilets / showers - reasonably clean, especially if early to use / not after lots of people. But temporary / portacabin-style and not much ventilation in showers or room to get changed with dry floor (no shower curtains so floor easily wet).
Friendly welcome, relaxed hosts, accommodated request to store bikes in barn (weather wasn’t great and would have had to keep in tents otherwise).
Didn’t have opportunity to try catering van but looked promising (recommend being able to take card payments in future).
Working farm - lots of points of interest for young children.
Picnic tables - was really useful for eating at as a group, and for playing card games etc at (during the limited times it stopped raining!).

Δεν μου άρεσε Free roaming animals means free roaming poo (watch your step!) but was cleaned up at least once while we were there.
Lack of communal covered space, I.e., been at sites before with camping lounge / kitchen for during bad weather (and weather was bad!).
Car park - bit of a slog from where we pitched carrying all our stuff in the rain… prefer being able to park next to pitch.
Showers could benefit from shower curtains - or a bit more space to change with dry flooring.

Μου άρεσε What an amazing location and fabulous facilities. The food van run by Marcus was delicious.

Δεν μου άρεσε Folk still out laughing and chatting close to midnight when Ts&Cs say to keep it down after 10pm. Don’t mind folk enjoying the weather but keep it down. Not the fault of the site.

Μου άρεσε Netter Empfang und toller Platz. Super Aussicht, Sanitärgebäude sauer und neu.
Zahme Esel zum Knuddeln und viele andere Tiere zum einfach Anschauen und runterkommen.
Gegend bietet einiges, Ausflug nach Glasgow mit dem Zug von Largs aus gut möglich.

Μου άρεσε Nice quiet site. Area lovely and rural. Very handy for visiting local area and attractions. Good value for money. Small snack van but only open Friday to Sunday.

Μου άρεσε What a beautiful little gem of a place! I loved everything about it. Hidden in a wee Glen, not far from a bustling Largs, this location is just stunning. The peace, the beautiful animals, the perfect grass to pitch on, the snack bar, the showers, the great loos, the wonderful atmosphere, the camaraderie of other residents and the lovely hosts gave me some beautiful memories, eventhough it was only just one night. Any questions i had , the hosts were there to help. All the kids were having an amazing time. Great experience for them.
We were blessed with great weather but was windy during the night. Wifi was a bit iffy but didnt bother me as it was so nice not to have the distraction. Truly was the best camping experience I've had for years. There are cracking beaches not far away, great for a morning dip! Loved it! Thoroughly recommend!

Μου άρεσε The location near Largs (not walkable - 3 miles away by road)
Great clean loos and showers for campervans on the field across the road for the main site
Food wagon in the evenings
No WiFi or phone data signal

Δεν μου άρεσε The electric pitches in the levelled field are small and top of each other so can hear each other farting! Yes that close!

If you had come to see me I would happily have given you out a code for the WiFi as we are in a valley we do struggle for mobile service.

I have to disagree and say that most people happily walk into Largs from our site as although no foot path as such it is a relatively quiet country road.

Apart from these issues I do hope you enjoyed your stay with us!
