Bridport’s Highlands End Holiday Park is certainly on high land, all the way up at clifftop level on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, overlooking the spectacular blue waters of Lyme Bay and with bridleway access to the walks of the World Heritage Coast. Most uplifting. Highlands End was the first park in the West Dorset Leisure group and the team has learnt a thing or three about family holidays in the 50 or so years since: the first-class facilities here include a generously-sized heated indoor pool, sauna and steam room (available for an additional charge only). There are active options on site for all ages such as soft play (charge applies), footgolf and two play areas, plus a duck pond for gentle waterside strolls. (If you’re all of a conundrum about what to do in Dorset, make for the on-site tourist information office which has leaflets and videos on local attractions.) Eats are covered at the park bar and restaurant dishing up all sorts of homemade meals using fresh local produce (probably the only restaurant you’ll ever go to with a 1936 Leyland Fire Engine and 1902 Merryweather Steam fire engine). Too nice a day to sit inside? There’s a beer garden – and play area – out the back. From Highlands End it’s a 500-metre coastal walk to the sand and shingle beach at Eypemouth and the village of Eype, in many people's humble opinion one of the prettiest villages in Dorset (a beach hut here was listed at the sky high price of £200,000 in 2011). The bridleway near the park will also take you to Symondsbury, West Bay, and over acres of countryside and farmland, much of it maintained by the National Trust. Finally, the site team stress that although they'd love to be able to guarantee fine weather at all times, please note that pitches here are on the clifftop to make the most of the spectacular views. This can also mean that they're exposed to high winds during periods of bad weather and so it's recommend that you ensure your tent is secured well.

Δεν μου άρεσε Restaurant unorganised. We were moved because we didn't see the small sign about dogs. Then upon ordering at 6.20pm we were told no more food orders.

Μου άρεσε The site is in a beautiful location with views of the countryside and sea . The pitches are very spacious . We had to use ramps but we never find that an issue . There are some pitches with a sea view but you have to be lucky to grab one . Having said that we still had sea glimpses and views of the surrounding hills so no complaints . The shower block is clean . We paid to use the indoor pool once which was ok . There are great walks along the coast and I walked inland to Bridport . It’s quite hilly for walking but the views are worth it in my opinion. I can imagine it could be a very windy site during inclement weather , something to bear in mind . I would book again . The New Inn is a 15 minute walk from the site , we had great service , generous meals and excellent beer, dog friendly too .

1. My husband had to wait for a shower one day.
2.The indoor chemical toilet disposal was a bit whiffy , not experienced that anywhere before .
3. Leisure changing/shower facilities a bit shabby.
4. No fruit in shop when we went in.

That said , all minor and would stay again .

Excellent views and activities, and lovely local places to visit.

Μου άρεσε Loved the views and the shower/washing facilities were good.

Δεν μου άρεσε We tried to eat in the restaurant a couple of times, but was told on one night the only food option was pizza. Then the next day, they didn't have the food from the menu we wanted either. It wasn't busy in there. We also felt like it opened for food orders at odd times, so it wasn't always available when we wanted it. However the staff were friendly and the food we did have was great quality.

Μου άρεσε Camp was well kept with beautiful views. Showers were hot. Restaurant we felt was a little expensive, but overall had a wonderful weekend and would definitely return.

Silver καλύβα κατασκήνωσης (4 άτομα)

Μου άρεσε Clean shower blocks and glamping pods.Lots of lovely wild rabbits the children loved.

Δεν μου άρεσε Our pod was unfortunately right next to the play area which was not a problem during the day .From 7 pm onwards this seemed to be the place for unsupervised teenagers to hang around.Both evenings we had to listen to shouting, swearing youths kicking balls and driving remote control cars around the play area. This continued until past 10pm Friday and Saturday evening ruining any chance of sitting out enjoying the fine weather in peace.It also meant our 6 and 8 year old could not get to sleep.
On Sunday morning at 9am we had to listen to more swearing kids whilst we tried to eat breakfast outside. We could not wait to leave.

Μου άρεσε Lovely location, beautiful scenery and easy access to West Bay. Discovered an unknown to us path that leads to West Bay without having to treck up the beach hill which was perfect for us and our ageing dog.
The facilities are very clean and plentiful and the pitches are kept immaculate.
On this trip we discovered that the campsite lease an off road mobility scooter at a very reasonable price for those that need it and is perfect for getting into West Bay.
Finally, all of the staff are so friendly and helpful and willing to help.

Δεν μου άρεσε Unfortunately and by no means the fault of Highlands End but our last evening (Friday) was disrupted with a group of people that partied with loud thumping music and shouting until 01:00 - 01:30hrs with no consideration for anyone around them especially as there were mature tourers either side of us and families with very young children too who no doubt needed their sleep.
In spite of this we will be going back.

From beaut beaches to historic towns, fossil hunting to wholesome hikes, the Dorset coast has a colossal amount of activities and attractions whatever floats your boat. Cast off for some sea fishing, take a boat trip or scuba dive to the depths from local beaches, or tee off instead with a course around the clifftop 18 holes of the Bridport and West Dorset Golf Club. West Bay and Bridport are both about a mile from Highlands End (just the right distance to walk for an ice cream on a sunny day), and at least a day is recommended in each: the miles of West Bay for sunbathing, watersports and landing mackerel from a boat; and the market town of Bridport for its 17th-century museum and the market, going strong since Elizabethan times and the place to pick up everyday items like local food and more outlandish bits and bobs like clothes and antiques. Beachcombers and fossil finders will probably find themselves at Lyme Regis at some point, one of the most famed stretches on the Jurassic Coast and along with Bridport one of its gateway towns – it was here that famous geologist Mary Anning made her first finds in the 19th century and the town holds an annual Mary Anning Day as well as the Lyme Regis Fossil Festival. Visitor centres and museums are dotted all around the coast; if you’re not sure where to start, most have guided tours available. Hikers will be happy too with the wealth of paths and bridleways snaking around coast and countryside from Highlands and beyond – the South West Coast Path follows the entire 95-mile Jurassic coastline and Dorset has around 300 miles of waymarked paths and trails. Buses stop at many coastal spots, or hire a minibus to spectate the scenery in style.
