Sea Natives Surf Camp

The fab surf waves aren't the only draw in Praia da Tocha – the long sandy stretch of beach is most excellent too, peppered with traditional fishermen's huts and backed by lovely dunes and forest to stroll through (keep an eye out for a little library on the beach too). Once you've mastered the art of getting up on your surfboard, take your skills south to Figueira da Foz (half an hour's drive) for a splashing day out on the sea. If you need a break from the action, perhaps you'd prefer a gentler dip in the natural outdoor pool at Olhos da Fervenca (20 minutes). Steer away from the seaside for a little while for a cultural day in Coimbra (45 minutes) – this handsome city was Portugal's medieval capital and makes for a splendid day of poking around in the cobbled streets of its historic centre. There's also a grand cathedral and a couple of museums to visit. Further afield, discover fab architecture in Fatima (an hour and 15 minutes) or take a hike from Porto de Mos (an hour and 10 minutes) into the rugged Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Nature Park.
