If you’re the kind of couple, family or group of friends that just thrives on fresh air and outdoor activities, chances are you’ll be pretty happy with a stay at Outdoors, in the Overijssel countryside.
This aptly named holiday park is in a rural location about five minutes' drive/10 minutes' cycle from Holten. It’s easily accessible from the A1 and other major roads, but once you’re here it’s all about nature, with a splendid 35 acres of open space providing plenty of room for walking, cycling, playing outdoor games or just chilling out in the fresh air.
Although it’s a family-friendly (and dog-friendly) place, this is not a holiday park with lots of entertainments and busy facilities. Instead, it's all about the open air – kids can use facilities like the play areas (with sandpit and trampoline), play football or volleyball at the playing field, build dens or follow the adventure trail with things like ropes and beams. In high season there are also paid activities including archery, forest bowling and farmer's golf (with wooden clubs and clogs).
Adults, meanwhile, may like to try out one of the hiking trails, go for a run or join a beer tasting session (and don't be jealous of the kids, because you're also welcome at the archery, bowling and golf activities). You can also hire a hot tub on site for an alfresco soak, or opt for a firepit for your cosy evening chats.
Naturally, barbecues (gas only, thanks) are welcome, and the site also has an outdoor bar for coffees, wines, beers and snacks. Site staff are happy to recommend local restaurants if you'd rather eat out.

Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Nähe
Start your exploration of the local area with a walk on one of the hiking trails from the park, or perhaps a ride on the nearby mountain bike trail (said to be one of the best in the Netherlands, no less). The Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park (10 minutes' drive/20 minutes' cycle) and Hoge Veluwe National Park (35 minutes' drive) are also on hand if you need more hiking or biking options.
For urban wanders, take yourselves to Enschede (half an hour) to tour the Grolsch brewery, De Museumfabriek and Rijksmuseum Twenthe, or to Deventer (25 minutes), an attractive Hanseatic town packed with historical buildings. Zutphen (half an hour) is another nice option, with lots of classic architecture, a rare chained library, a couple of museums and a beach area for cooling off with a paddle.
Family days out? Try the likes of Speelboerderij Dondertman (10 minutes), Klimbos Apeldoorn (half an hour) and Apenheul (half an hour), or get lost in the maze at Paleis Het Loo (35 minutes).
