When you’re looking for a peaceful retreat in rural Sardinia, Azienda Agricola Veldidonna might just catch your attention. At 10 minutes’ drive from the laidback little town of Tempio Pausania, this splendid farm site has just a clutch of peaceful pitches where you can sleep under the stars, surrounded by the granite rock formations and majestic cork oak trees of the Gallura region.
Accommodation is in well-furnished bell tents with lots of cosy details like pretty rugs and antique furniture. Quality bedding and towels are provided, along with storage space, armchairs and lights. Outside you have hay bales as seating, upcycled wooden tables, pretty lanterns and glassware, all tucked under the cooling shade of trees.
Shared showers and loos are available, and breakfast is included in the basic price. Your welcoming hosts produce their own honey, cheeses, vegetables and cured meats, which you are encouraged to sample for an extra cost – please order in advance. There are cows, sheep and goats about the place too (for this reason, no dogs are allowed on the pitches).

Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Nähe
You have lots of hiking choices at Azienda Agricola Veldidonna; Monti di Aggius (10 minutes’ drive) has easy meadows to traverse as well as technical climbing over granite boulders. The kids can have a runaround in the shaded Parco Fonte Nuova (also 10 minutes), or you can walk up to the San Gavino viewpoint (half an hour) for vistas over undulating hills to the Med.
Talking of the Med, the nearest beach is at quiet Li Feruli (half an hour), where there’s a small bar. Other coastal options include Spiaggia di Cala Canneddi (35 minutes) – take waterproof shoes for navigating the pebble seabed as you swim out to the distinctive granite rock formations just offshore.
There’s lots of cultural stuff to do too. The 3,500-year-old fortress at Nuraghe Majore (five minutes) is surrounded by greenery and today plays host to a protected colony of pipistrelle bats. There’s a bizarre ‘rock house’ built into a granite boulder at Monte Pulchiana, while the village of Aggius (both 10 minutes) has cute cobbled alleys to explore and is known for the making of ornate carpets.
