Functional simplicity mixed with comfort and style… that sums up this glamping cabin based just outside of the Lake District National Park. Dog Crag Cabin is a wise base for active breaks: beaches, lakes and other south Lake District landscapes are all easy to access. So, where exactly is this cabin? On a former farm in a valley in southwest Cumbria, it’s just four miles from Millom and a five- minute drive from Silecroft Beach in the south of the national park. The Cumbria Coastal Way, which snakes its way along the Lake District coast, is nearby and can be accessed from a footpath direct from the farm. That’s coastal hikes on your itinerary already. Horse riding treks might feature too – there’s a trekking centre five minutes’ drive away. There are more hikes out onto fells or you might want to visit the local golf course (10 minutes’ drive) and go fishing in Haverigg (10 minutes). Foodies will be happy to find shops and pubs within five to 10 minutes’ drive of the site too. The cabin is actually a barn conversion – through the arched door, there’s a well-designed, modern and open-plan timber interior, splendidly lit and tastefully decorated with a four-poster bed. Ensuite facilities, which include a shower, and kitchen facilities are included. Up to two pets are welcome, as are any couples or solo travellers. Whoever you bring, don’t forget to climb the often-forgotten Wainwright’s Black Combe (five minutes’ drive), which has views over the Irish Sea and the Isle of Man.

Die umgebaute Scheune und Hütte wird für ihre schöne, ruhige und abgelegene Lage gelobt, mit toller Aussicht, Nähe zu Wanderwegen und dem Silecroft Strand. Gäste loben die makellose Sauberkeit, durchdachtes Design und umfassende Ausstattung, besonders den Bettenkomfort. Gastgeberin Louise wird oft erwähnt. Die meisten hatten einen perfekten Aufenthalt, wenige hatten Probleme mit Dusche/Warmwasser. Mobilfunkempfang ist begrenzt.

Just for other guests - Contrary to the AI summary of reviews, the mobile signal is actually good on site (at least 3G) but it is limited inside the building due to the thick walls but then you have wifi inside - at the front door outside the mobile signal is decent. AI sometimes misses the nuance so just wanted to clarify. Also we had an issue with the water supply a couple of years ago now but have this is no longer an issue after fully replacing all the pipes.

A beautiful remote, yet accessible cabin. The perfect getaway.

Positiv Absolutely everything! A beautiful, exceptionally well thought out, converted barn. Spotlessly clean with excellent facilities. Practical and functional, tastefully furnished, with a luxurious yet homely feel. Outside we loved admiring the stunning scenery, watching the chickens, horses and sheep (& hearing and seeing the handsome cockerels) The site is easy to find, close to beautiful walks (which my dogs loved!) A fantastic beach and shops (& a great chippy) just a few minutes drive away in Millom (which also has a petrol station). We would love to come and stay again, its was the perfect place to come and recharge, we were both sad to leave (as were the dogs)

Positiv Absolutely amazing little cabin with everything for a few nights stay. Comfy bed and sofa (plenty of cushions, pillows, blankets and throws), kitchen area with toaster, microwave and hot plate. Dining table and chairs and we loved the rocking chair too.

The whose place was immaculately clean. Plenary of towels, teas towels and all cleaning products provided.

Super friendly owner (even provided extra tea-bags when we forgot) on site available to offer advice when needed. The info book was a nice touch with advice on local pubs, cafes and places to visit.

Lovely walks literally on the doorstep and lots more a short drive away. We really enjoyed the beach at Silecroft and exploring Millom Park.

Positiv What a gem of a place you have Louise. we spent 2 lovely days in Dog crag cabin. Couldn't imagine what was behind the Hobbit like door... it was quite magical and felt instantly homely. Very clean, airy and comfortable. A lovely view from the window, (cockerel crowed at 6.am) but didn't bother us,and the swifts in the adjoining building was quite sweet. Silecroft beach, just 5 mins drive away is just beautiful as was the weather. We swam in the (warm)sea. Enjoyed ice cream in the cafe, watching the horses on the beach. Did a couple of walks suggested in the file. The quarry walk (quite long)and the Kirk Stanton track is worth doing for the unexpected views from the top. Paid a visit to Millom, found a lovely shoe/dress shop.
We will definitely be back and would like to stay in the cottage that has more outdoor space. Really enjoyed our few days away and had a good chat and laughs with Louise warmed to the excited dogs.

Positiv Thoughtful layout. Not just dog friendly, the owners adore dogs. Keeping dogs and childerbeasts on a lead at all times essential for everyones piece of mind. Wifi is brilliant....it needs to be as next to no phone signal....which is a blessing

Vom Platzbetreiber: Thanks for the lovely review, we do have some horses and free range hens and ducks on site so we appreciate the comment regarding dogs on a lead. There is limited mobile reception inside the cabin due to the building's external walls being built of stone - but you can get decent signal outside for most mobile networks. Wifi inside is generally good as per the review.

Positiv Loved everything about our stay, the cabin was super clean and had everything we needed. The location was great with walks nearby and the beach only a short drive away. We spent the evenings bat and owl watching . We both have not slept as well for ages, we will definitely be back.
