Ooh la la, the lakeside setting of Camping Le Lanfonnet is most magnifique. And this is not just any old lake – non, Lake Annecy is a veritable gem. The third largest in France, its clear waters are fed in by mountain streams to make up one of Europe’s cleanest lakes. Clearly, one must allow plenty of time for watery and waterside hours and hours, but there’s loads more to fill your days around here. A beach is a couple of minutes’ amble away from the site and two more lie within a 20-minute walk, for sunbathing days, canoeing, paddleboarding, scuba diving and heaps more. The site is well set up for activities too, with table tennis, table football, pétanque and a playground, as well as a TV room to retreat to for indoor times, and a bar-restaurant to fully investigate for local grub. Pick up essentials at the site grocery store in summer; at other times and for more shops, take a 20-minute stroll along the lakeside path to reach local village Talloires. A miniature golf course and tennis courts are up here too, and it’s the starting point for some great hiking and bike trails up into the hills. Restaurants and cafés are in the village and all along the lake shore for essential coffee and croissant pitstops or for a glass of vin with a view.

Aquest càmping té una ubicació excel·lent al costat del llac amb accés fàcil a esports aquàtics i ciclorutes. Les parcel·les són espaioses i ombrades, amb personal amable. Nice and peaceful site
Young lad on reception is great really helpful

No em va agradar Struggled to get any hot water while there to shower. Wash facilities are very dated and not cleaned in the 2 nights we were there I used the disabled toilet which seemed the best.
If you have your own facilities this place is great.

Em va agradar Location was lovely, a short walk to the lake for relaxing, swimming and bodyboarding was perfect.

No em va agradar Toilets were sometimes dirty, showers were old and the first block cold water, 2nd block was hot water.

Em va agradar Location to the lake.

No em va agradar The toilet/shower facilities, long walk if you want a average hot shower. WiFi is non existent even though we were close to the reception area. Kept awake most of the night by a group next door drinking & being loud till 1.30am, then disgusted by the noise they made by having sexual intercourse they quite obviously had no respect for anyone around them. Shocking sexual behaviour for a family campsite, we were glad to be leaving the following morning.

No em va agradar If you’ve ever wondered what happens when a campsite charges modern prices while providing facilities from several centuries ago, wonder no more.

This place doesn’t need renovating — it needs an archaeologist.

We paid for an electric hook-up, which apparently meant we had paid for the opportunity to have electricity rather than electricity itself. There weren’t enough hook-up points for the pitches that had paid for them, so presumably electricity here is allocated on a first-come, first-served Hunger Games basis.

The toilets were an experience. Dated, dirty, no toilet paper provided, and around half were squat toilets. Nothing quite prepares you for arriving desperate for the toilet and discovering that the campsite has unexpectedly booked you onto a lower-body workout.

And then we come to the showers.

I can only assume these were originally installed in 16th-century France and have remained completely unmodernised in the interests of historical preservation. The temperature settings appeared to be cold, very cold, and question your decision to come on holiday.

Calling them “showers” may actually be generous. It was closer to being lightly pressure-washed with Alpine snowmelt.

The whole campsite feels extremely outdated and poorly maintained. Basic facilities were dirty, electricity we’d paid for wasn’t adequately provided, and hot water appears to be a technological advancement that hasn’t yet reached this particular corner of France.

If you’re looking for clean facilities, reliable electricity and a warm shower after a day travelling, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.

If you’re looking to experience medieval France without the inconvenience of owning a time machine, however, absolutely perfect.

Llocs d'interès

Several hiking and cycling trails around the lake start from Talloires village – a popular route from here is the hour-long walk up to the Cascade d’Angon waterfall. To get to other walks in the area, such as those in the Bout du Lac natural reserve, take the car (20 minutes to the nature reserve) or pick up the bus or boat services running all around the lake. On the hillside above the village is the medieval Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard, where you can take a guided tour of some of its 100 rooms; pick from a traditional guided tour or one run by costumed actors to help fire up the kids’ imaginations. It’ll take you 15 minutes or so to drive up there or just over an hour to hike up. Watersports galore make the most of the gorgeous lake waters – just next to the site are waterskiing, wakeboarding and windsurfing lessons and canoes and sailing boats for hire, and up in Talloires are a paddleboarding school and a scuba diving centre. If you’d like to combine your watery pursuits and mountain exploration, sign up for a canyoning trip from the adventure sports centre a couple of minutes’ walk from the site. Adrenaline junkies with an eye for a great view can fly over the lake on a paragliding flight from just outside Talloires; meanwhile, those of a gentler persuasion might prefer a round of golf at Lake Annecy Golf Course, 10 minutes away. The handsome old town of Annecy is half an hour's drive away.
