Might you care to get out into the spectacular Gardon and Ardèche gorges on your scenic French hol – with riverside beach days in between? Settle down for viewsome times at Camping Le Ventadour, on the banks of the Ardèche river with its own beach. It's a cinch to drift along to watersports and other outdoorsy excursions from this family-run park, as the friendly team runs regular organised excursions like canoe trips into the Gorges de l'Ardèche about 40 kilometres away. More gorge canoeing, kayaking and hiking is at the Gorges du Gardon, 16 kilometres from Le Ventadour's local town of Meyras, and the site's setting in the Ardèche Mountains Regional Natural Park has it pretty well placed too for active options like climbing, canyoning and via ferrata tours. You may, however, care to care not a jot for all that activity and invest your energy in sorting a seriously serene time instead. If so, Ardèche river fishing is available next to the site, or you could take a hike or mountain bike ride on one of the several trails starting from the grounds, including the peaceful four-kilometre track to medieval Meyras. As well as the beach, leisure facilities on site include playgrounds, a volleyball court, a pétanque court, table tennis and a games room with table football and video games. Food is sorted at the food shop and summer snack bar; the site also has free wifi, a washing-up area, a launderette and washrooms that can be heated in the cooler months. A kids' club and family-friendly entertainment such as sports tournaments and karaoke nights run at the site in summer.

Llocs d'interès

You'll find a fair bit to do within strolling or cycling distance of this pretty place, among hiking and mountain bike trails, Ardèche river fishing next door, and the ruins of the Château de Ventadour within half a kilometre's stroll (open to the public in July and August). A walking track from the site leads to Meyras a few kilometres away, a medieval town listed as one of the Ardèche villages of character. Two more characterful villages, Thuyets and Jaujac, are four and five kilometres from Meyras. Other options include sinking into the thermal baths of Neyrac-les-Bains, five minutes' drive from Camping Le Ventadour, or feeling audacious at the Adventure Forest tree climbing park, five kilometres away. Guided climbing, canyoning and via ferrata tours can be booked within 15 kilometres. For natural splendours, cruise along to the cascades of the Ray Pic waterfall (35 minutes by car), or to the spectacular Pont-d'Arc (just under an hour), the starting point for those mighty scenic canoe trips in the Gorges de l'Ardèche.
