How does a peaceful hol in the very northern reaches of north Wales sound? If the answer’s an instant 'yes please', give Pencraig Campsite a go: it's in the Anglesey countryside on a smallholding next to a field full of ponies overlooking grassy green meadows. Pencraig Campsite has a good range of amenities, with modern toilets and showers plus a washing-up area. The sunset views are excellent from this site, creating a serene setting in which to stoke up the barbecue at the end of a day beachcombing around the lovely Isle of Anglesey. Shores within easy driving distance include Porth Trwyn and Church Bay (both 15 minutes); the latter has a café for filling up at as well as a small museum in an old thatched 17th-century cottage. For other eats, the local village of Valley is a five-minute drive from the site just off the island’s main coastal road with its pubs, takeaways, small shops and petrol station. A few bigger supermarkets are on the way to Holyhead less than 10 minutes’ drive away; come here for birdwatching too as it’s the gateway to scenic cliffside walks with the potential for puffin spotting at RSPB South Stack (20 minutes away). If you’ve brought a four-legged friend on the trip – as dogs are welcome at Pencraig Campsite – plenty of places for walkies are about, including around the colourful disused copper mine at Parys Mountain (half an hour away).

Em va agradar Such a great site! Great location to get to Trearddur Bay and other areas in North Wales/Anglesey. Very quiet and peaceful and the toilet blocks were amazing and showers were brilliant. Definitely would stay here again.

Em va agradar Very quiet site, very clean pitches, pitches a decent size, new and very clean toilet block. Hot free showers. Friendly staff, from what I saw, Friendly horses too.

No em va agradar The only thing I would say is it would be difficult if 2 cars/vehicles wanted to enter or exit at the same time due to a single track road and a tight entrance point where you go past the toilet block to get in/out of the pitch area.

Em va agradar Our stay at Pencraig Campsite was absolutely fantastic, a peaceful, family friendly place with everything you could want for a relaxing week away.

The facilities were outstanding, especially the showers which were genuinely the best I’ve ever used at a campsite.

We were welcomed by the owner as soon as we arrived and throughout the week every neighbour we had was friendly and respectful.

The pitch sizes are great, with a lovely central grass area where the kids could play safely while we enjoyed some competitve games of Frustration, Monopoly, and Uno.

Evenings were beautiful, a couple of cold drinks (then a couple more…) as the sun set over the hills, horses trotting around the fields and happily coming over for the children to stroke. Waking up to them each morning was a highlight for my two young children.

Cows wandered quietly in the distance, completing the peaceful countryside setting.

Food was a big part of our stay and the Cadac didn’t disappoint, we had fajitas, curries, Jamaican meat and rice and even homemade stone baked pizzas.

The location is perfect for exploring Anglesey, with easy drives out to all the main spots. The pitches do sit on a slight hill, but that’s part of the charm of camping.

We’ll definitely be returning.

Em va agradar Big space for Tent
Not far from Holyhead town for shops etc.
My 8 year old Son liked playing with all the kids on site.

No em va agradar Noise after 11pm, Our neighbour had there radio on after 11pm, although it was on low volume myself and son could not sleep until it was turned off around 2am, when i asked the neighbour next day he said there aloud to listen to radio on low volume.

This needs to be changed to no noise after 11pm and certainly no radio

Em va agradar Hosts very welcoming and helpful. Showers exceptional and campsite very clean. Showers are always an issue for me and this campsite has by far the best ones.

Anglesey has numerous beaches to comb, including the quiet bay of Rhoscolyn (15 minutes' drive away) with calm, shallow water for paddling or kayaking and Traeth Llydan (20 minutes), a wide, sandy stretch of coastline. Llanddwyn Island is 45 minutes away – visit at low tide to reach it via the sand. For age-old history in between submerges in the sea, the Neolithic-era Barclodiad y Gawres burial chamber is 15 minutes’ drive away and the Bryn Celli Ddu Burial Chamber takes 25 minutes to reach for investigating Wales’ prehistoric history. Slightly more recent heritage can be had on tours of Beaumaris’ castle and old jail; the pretty seaside village is also tiptop for shopping in small independent boutiques and filling up in traditional pubs. Off Anglesey, about an hour and five minutes’ drive away, is the base of Wales’ biggest mountain, Snowdon. If your legs are feeling up to it, hike to the summit – or just take the train…
