How does a peaceful hol in the very northern reaches of north Wales sound? If the answer’s an instant 'yes please', give Pencraig Campsite a go: it's in the Anglesey countryside on a smallholding next to a field full of ponies overlooking grassy green meadows. Pencraig Campsite has a good range of amenities, with modern toilets and showers plus a washing-up area. The sunset views are excellent from this site, creating a serene setting in which to stoke up the barbecue at the end of a day beachcombing around the lovely Isle of Anglesey. Shores within easy driving distance include Porth Trwyn and Church Bay (both 15 minutes); the latter has a café for filling up at as well as a small museum in an old thatched 17th-century cottage. For other eats, the local village of Valley is a five-minute drive from the site just off the island’s main coastal road with its pubs, takeaways, small shops and petrol station. A few bigger supermarkets are on the way to Holyhead less than 10 minutes’ drive away; come here for birdwatching too as it’s the gateway to scenic cliffside walks with the potential for puffin spotting at RSPB South Stack (20 minutes away). If you’ve brought a four-legged friend on the trip – as dogs are welcome at Pencraig Campsite – plenty of places for walkies are about, including around the colourful disused copper mine at Parys Mountain (half an hour away).

Gostou What a lovely campsite greeted on a arrival by a,very friendly young lady.
The site had lovely views of rolling hills and their was beautiful horse in a paddock.
The site was very well maintained and the showers and toilets and showers were immaculate.We didn't want to leave , would definitely visit again.

Gostou Good size pitch. Quite location.

Não gostou Way over priced for what was on offer.
Very unlevel pitch. Tent occupiers dogs running about every where. No sign or contact from the owners/manager.
Will be avoiding a return visit to this site.
Very exposed windy site.

Lovely stay on basic but beautiful site.

Não gostou Very windy, very rowdy tenters the last couple of nights, spoilt the rest of our holiday!!!

Gostou Good, Modern shower/Toilet block. Plenty of hot water. Quiet site. Good size pitches.

Não gostou No recycling facilities. Chemical toilet drain blocked. No Grey-water drain.

Gostou Hosts were really accommodating and allowed us to move pitches to a more sheltered area as winds hit 45mph. Lovely and clean facilities would recommend staying there again.

Clean site, accommodating staff. Request an outer pitch if in tent.

Gostou The facilities are some of the best we have stayed at so far - especially the showers with great pressure! There are both indoor and outdoor toilets, a washing up area with hot tap and more. The site owners were very friendly and really looked out for us when the wind picked up by offering us a different pitch. I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone travelling into the area.

We also brought our dog who is 10 years old but a first time camper. After the first night I was concerned he would be terrified but when we moved it was lovely and peaceful. He had a blast. Thank you for being a dog friendly site!

Não gostou Pitches in the middle got really windy so I would suggest that maybe the hedge row/outside pitches are given tent priority on windier days. I am only saying this because the night we stayed in the middle there were many free pitches on the edge, yet we weren't given them. The wind did end up damaging one of the tents. Really appreciate that we were moved though that was great from the site owners, also appreciate they can't control the weather!

The middle pitches aren't as even as the outside pitches either.

There was also a rude lady who was in one of the permanent caravans, but that's not the lovely site owners fault!

Gostou Campsite was peaceful and well kept. Shower and toilet facilities were brilliant. Location was good, 20mins away from a number of beaches and only 10mins from retail park with supermarkets and shops.

Não gostou There wasn't anywhere walking distance to walk the dogs or let them off lead. The main road didn't have pathways so had to take the car to walk them of the campsite. No dog field on site. However there are plenty of dog friendly beaches and parks nearby

Gostou Lovely quiet dark site. Close to the seaside towns. 10 minute drive for a swim in the sea.
Cows and horses to talk to in the next fields.
Have stayed here once before and would definately stay again.

Atrações locais

Anglesey has numerous beaches to comb, including the quiet bay of Rhoscolyn (15 minutes' drive away) with calm, shallow water for paddling or kayaking and Traeth Llydan (20 minutes), a wide, sandy stretch of coastline. Llanddwyn Island is 45 minutes away – visit at low tide to reach it via the sand. For age-old history in between submerges in the sea, the Neolithic-era Barclodiad y Gawres burial chamber is 15 minutes’ drive away and the Bryn Celli Ddu Burial Chamber takes 25 minutes to reach for investigating Wales’ prehistoric history. Slightly more recent heritage can be had on tours of Beaumaris’ castle and old jail; the pretty seaside village is also tiptop for shopping in small independent boutiques and filling up in traditional pubs. Off Anglesey, about an hour and five minutes’ drive away, is the base of Wales’ biggest mountain, Snowdon. If your legs are feeling up to it, hike to the summit – or just take the train…
