No need to decide between a trip to Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire – just a couple minutes' drive away from the A303, Somerset's Sunnyhill Park and Campsite is an excellent base for exploring all three. This peaceful, restful rural site is a five-minute drive from Wincanton, a town with a racecourse, pubs, coffee shops and shops. There are plenty of attractions within a short drive of the site too, whether it's the animals of Longleat, 25 minutes' drive away, or the gorgeous Stourhead Gardens, 10 minutes' drive away. Where else might you visit? Famed Stonehenge and Wells are within 35 minutes' drive of the site. Glastonbury, well known for its annual festival and Glastonbury Tor, is 40 minutes' drive away. Closer by is the gorgeous working estate The Newt in Somerset – at 15 minutes' drive – and Bruton, a small market town – at 25 minutes' drive. It's also just a 25-minute drive from the site to Shaftesbury to see Gold Hill's steep cobbles and a splendid abbey. There are plenty of shops, cafés and pubs dotted around the small local towns and villages. Although you may want to save yourself for a pint at the seasonal (and weekend-only) pop-up café-bar on site. In keeping with the rural views stretching towards King Alfred's Tower (note this location down if you're a fan of woodland walks), there is a 'pets' corner' with pet sheep, goats, cows, turkeys, chickens, ducks, ponies and cats to meet on site. Covering the practical side of things, the site has an amenities block with two showers and toilets for ladies and the same (two of each) for gents. After dark, guests are very welcome to gather around a firepit.

Em va agradar Despite being only 5 minutes from the A303, this is a quiet site with wonderful views.
We were welcomed by the owners colleague and were offered a choice of pitches which was really welcomed.
We were only there one night, enroute to Devon, but were impressed with the friendly atmosphere, the location and the cozy and well equipped bathrooms.

No em va agradar It’s a bit of a squeeze getting out passed the house, but on the other hand the directions to the site were very clear and painted beautifully, it was just a case of taking it slowly!

Em va agradar Really peaceful site. Was really helpful when porch on tent blew off while we were out.

No em va agradar Lighting poor on washing area and water was only luke warm. Mens showers not hot all the time.

Em va agradar The view and rustic charm . The live music on the Saturday night was a pleasant surprise. Good phone signal.

No em va agradar The showers weren't very good. The temperature was cold then warm and the shower head gave a very fine spray/mist, not ideal if you need to wash your hair but ok for a quick wash. The hard standing was in need of repair. Barking dogs from residents static caravans

Just to address the negatives ....
Showers .... wish you had talked to me...had an electrician and plumber working on site all weekend some of which was addressing a recurring problem with the mens showers.... WHICH IS NOW SOLVED YAY

Not sure re repairing a hard standing? ...would have been kinder to share the fact that we only disclose the measurements of the hard standing on the listing....and you in fact get at least 100% extra in grass area too in this sunny weather

Yes barking dogs on the Sat...new tennant ...silly hot weather and her dogs barked whenever anyone walked past...thankfully they have settled in a little better now.

All in all your review is fair if a little harsh and thank fully my regular guests accept my places lil imperfections and rejoice in the splendiferous nature of our rural little gem

I have no response as there doesnt seem to be specific critisisms ... other than the shower block which i am always transparent about and which is constantly being updated and improved?

Not sure re the vehicle...yes we are a farm track .... but large biffas and deliveries and even recently a 35ft mobilt home have negotiated it?

Hopefully people will see past this review ... and if they want a small friendly generally peaceful site with great views elsan showerblock ehu weekend pop up bar....in rural somerset they will come here

Em va agradar It was a very peaceful place to stay, with fantastic views and great facilities. The kids really enjoyed their time there. Sandy was very welcoming and explained everything in detail. This morning, she even took my children to collect some eggs, and they absolutely loved the experience.

Upon arrival in the hamlet of Riding Gate, turn down the dead-end lane with a property called Tower View on the corner. Down this lane and past the entrance to Sunny Crest bungalow on your right, you will pass the Old Sunnyhill Farmhouse track on your left. Do not turn left until the Cart House and Sundown bungalows. There's a hand-painted sign on the right pointing left down the track at this point. Do not go down the hill. Follow the hand-painted signs down the farm track and to the site.

Devotees of Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books flock to Wincanton (five minutes' drive), not only to peruse the bits and bobs at the Discworld Emporium but also to hunt out the various tributes around the town; having been officially twinned with Ankh-Morpork, there are now several Discworld street names and a themed pub to be seen around the place. Away from the fantasy world, real-life creatures on a drive through Longleat safari park (half an hour). If it’s motors that get you going, take the 10-minute drive to the Haynes Motor Museum instead. Those with a sense for the mystic may like to peruse the famed slabs of Stonehenge (35 minutes) or head to Glastonbury Tor (45 minutes) to consider the legends that surround the ancient site. Less shrouded in mystery but still mighty pretty for a wander are the house and gorgeous gardens at National Trust-owned Stourhead (15 minutes). Wells (35 minutes) is also just up northwest, on the edge of the Mendip Hills National Landscape, with a splendid cathedral, medieval streets, twice-weekly markets and grand, old The Bishop's Palace & Gardens.
