An adults-only site in the shade of distinctive Colmers Hill, Ernie’s Plot is easily reached from the A35. The site is surrounded by Dorset’s splendidly rural landscape, with hedgerows and leafy trees, inquisitive sheep in the nearby field and the occasional cameo by the local wildlife, mainly foxes and deer. Sitting halfway between Bridport and Chideock (five minutes’ drive to either), the site is also a five-minute drive from the spectacular Jurassic Coast, fringed by the South West Coast Path (cue epic walks with your four-legged companion) and dotted with pretty beaches – from pebbly Eype (which also happens to be dog-friendly), to Seatown, where you might bump into a fossil hunter or two. The touring pitches here are the Cadillacs of touring pitches: hardstanding, double-width and with water supply. Electric hook-up is coin-operated, so be sure to raid the piggy bank before your holiday, and come armed with plenty of £1 & £2 coins. And 50-pence coins, too – they will come in handy for the hot shower in the impeccably maintained toilet block. How’s this for luxury? One of the two cubicles comes with underfloor heating – bliss. Another elegant touch is the daily newspaper delivery (on request). Check out the information shed/shop, where you can get the timetable for the bus and brochures on nearby attractions, as well as essential items such as free-range eggs from the resident chooks, cheese and milk, and local meats.

Em va agradar Easy site to find using sat nav; access via wooden gates. Small number of pitches, no reception, but names and pitch numbers on blackboard as you drive into site on left building. Lovely information shed, my wife was hugely impressed, unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to see inside, maybe next time.
Pitches are really big and very level - had a good nights stop - relaxing.
Hookup electric easy to sort out and use slot meter.
Lovely touch is each pitch has its own wooden table/bench seats opposite. Nice touch having food or just sitting in the sun…

Em va agradar Very nice site, very quiet and well kept.
Toilets/showers very good. You will need a 50p coin to use shower but lasts for ages.

Nice little shop on site for basics fresh eggs/biscuits.

Would stay again, lovely people and place.

Em va agradar Great location - you can walk to the town/coast and the views are glorious. We loved the sheep and ducks (and Willow and Fern, the friendly dogs). the toilets/showers are immaculate and the information point is great.

No em va agradar These are not really 'dislikes' but worth knowing that pitches are not actually "fully serviced" - you will need a waste-master (we assumed it would include waste drainage). The pitches are lovely and wide but not particularly deep (i.e. front to back of caravan)

Em va agradar What a beautifully kept small adults only site in a great location just off the main road. 20 mins walk into Bridport and bus stop a few minutes too that takes you along the coast in both directions.

Em va agradar Adult only. Very friendly, Nik and Adam are more than happy to help out with whatever you may need. Willow and Fern are characters. Scenery is excellent. Toilets and showers were always clean. Honesty shop is so cute and carries essentials. Hard standing pitches with picnic tables for eating outside. Would I recommend Ernie's Plot and stay again? Already booked.

Em va agradar Really liked the location just off A35. Very good for ongoing journey the next day. Great directions to the site sent a couple of days before. Beautiful countryside setting and very relaxed atmosphere.

No em va agradar Our dogs are quite reactive, so we always have them on a loose lead. I was surprised to find dogs running loose!!

In Lyme Regis (20 minutes’ drive), be sure to find the Mary Anning Rocks statue, honouring the town’s most renowned fossil hunter (and her dog Tray), then walk along the beach all the way to the stone jetty known as The Cobb, from where you can admire a cracking sunset. Maumbury Rings Roman Amphitheatre, in Dorchester (half an hour), started life as a Neolithic henge, before morphing into an amphitheatre in Roman times and an artillery fort in the 17th century. On the outskirts of town, Maiden Castle is an elaborate Iron Age hill fort, while bookworms might be drawn to National Trust - Hardy’s Cottage, where the author wrote some of his early works. Chesil Beach (35 minutes) is an 18-mile long expanse of shingle sheltering the Fleet Lagoon, an area of salt marshes that’s home to an assortment of migrant birds. At its north-western end is the Abbotsbury Swannery, with daily feedings of the swan colony and a swan-shaped maze.
