It’s not every day you get to pitch up among fruit trees, so grab the chance to do just that at Frittenden Orchard, where off-grid grass pitches are scattered in orchards on a Kent farm near Staplehurst. For even more of a back-to-nature vibe, you can wander the 11-acre woodland wildlife haven around the camping fields, where you might get to see foxes, badgers and deer. The site owners are happy to suggest local walks and sightseeing ideas for you. Free-range eggs are available from their own hens (just think of the breakfast fry-ups…). As this is a simple campsite, there’s no electricity but you will have a wifi connection and ice-pack freezing to keep your food fresh and chilled, as well as charging facilities for your devices, so you can keep in touch with the outside world. You can barbecue meals on grills brought from home, and pick up locally sourced produce from the handy store in Frittenden (five minutes’ drive), but if you’d rather someone else did your cooking while you’re away from home, there’s also a smashing pub in the village serving yummy burgers and local beers.

Em va agradar After booking I realised I wouldn’t be able to arrive by the set check in time so I emailed the owner and was told it was no problem. I met Diane on arrival who was very welcoming. I arrived when it was dark which was a real shame as I’d loved to have explored more as the area is beautiful.
The site is quiet, the toilet and shower facilities are modern, well looked after and spotless. Diane let me know I could park up anywhere and again if I’d have arrived when it was light I would have explored more.
Overall a fantastic stay. I will definitely go back when I have more time!

Em va agradar Our weekend at Frittenden Orchard was great. It was exceptionally quiet at the campsite so we could pick anywhere to set up really, and chose between a row of trees. The toilet/shower block was immaculate, and the small kitchen area with sink and a small fridge/freezer was perfect for washing up, and putting a couple of drinks and some ice blocks in.

Despite the remote location it was really easy to access local areas, and we visited Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, as well as the Balfour Winery. Staplehurst was nearby too which has a large supermarket and a few other shops which would most likely cater to all you'd need for a weekend away.

To top it all off, I proposed to my girlfriend on the first night outside our tent by our firepit - so it will be a weekend we remember forever and I imagine we will come back in the future!

Em va agradar I arrived here with my two daughters on the bank holiday, We were greeted by Diane the owner. She is so lovely, friendly and informative. The fruit Orchard is absolutely beautiful, there are large areas to camp and also the option to pitch up between the orchards if requested. The facilities here are truly amazing, better than B&Bs! The toilets are new, and VERY clean. The showers are spotless with hot running water. Also, the toilet and shower block boasts underfloor heating!!! The washing up facilities are clean and well maintained. The charging point is very helpful too. They also have a fridge and freezer which is very convenient. I don't know what isn't to like about this campsite, it truly is an amazing place, breathtaking views, and clean facilities. Diane is very caring and passionate about her Orchard, I've never known someone who is so dedicated especially having to maintain it all on their own, and yet, still takes the time to get to know everyone who stays here. Thank you for a wonderful and relaxing stay, we will definitely be visiting again.

Leeds Castle (25 minutes’ drive) has a host of activities, from guided tours to jousting tournaments and raptor displays, to keep families entertained all day. There are rose gardens to wander in Sissinghurst Castle Garden (10 minutes), and at moated Scotney Castle (25 minutes) you can follow trails through landscaped parkland. There’s more active stuff to do too; kids with energy to burn can wear themselves out on zipwires or mountain-biking trails at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest (20 minutes), or on the inflatable course at Bewl Water Aqua Park (25 minutes). Younger children can cuddle the cute creatures at Buttercups Sanctuary For Goats (20 minutes), and any rainy-day issues are taken care of by the indoor pool at The Weald Sports Centre (10 minutes). If you’ve treated the kids to their day out, you deserve some me-time too. How about heading into Royal Tunbridge Wells (40 minutes) to browse indie shops or lunch in the cosy bistros of The Pantiles? And if you fancy a night out, book tickets for shows at the Trinity or Assembly Hall theatres.
