It’s not every day you get to pitch up among fruit trees, so grab the chance to do just that at Frittenden Orchard, where off-grid grass pitches are scattered in orchards on a Kent farm near Staplehurst. For even more of a back-to-nature vibe, you can wander the 11-acre woodland wildlife haven around the camping fields, where you might get to see foxes, badgers and deer. The site owners are happy to suggest local walks and sightseeing ideas for you. Free-range eggs are available from their own hens (just think of the breakfast fry-ups…). As this is a simple campsite, there’s no electricity but you will have a wifi connection and ice-pack freezing to keep your food fresh and chilled, as well as charging facilities for your devices, so you can keep in touch with the outside world. You can barbecue meals on grills brought from home, and pick up locally sourced produce from the handy store in Frittenden (five minutes’ drive), but if you’d rather someone else did your cooking while you’re away from home, there’s also a smashing pub in the village serving yummy burgers and local beers.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked Lovely clean site. Shower and toilet blocks always clean and well stocked. Peaceful location with an easy walk to the local pub (which was fabulous) and a lovely country walk to Sissinghurst. Nice to see so many families enjoying the bank holiday weekend.

Liked Diane was very welcoming on arrival/check in. She gave a quick intro to where we can camp/facilities and during the weekend gave recommendations for walks and where to get fish n chips!

Site was lovely! New toilet block was spotless and loved the hot showers!

You are able to pitch anywhere on site which was great. We saw many smaller tents pitch in between the orchard.

WiFi didn't reach to where we pitched but that didn't bother us as it was about family time playing games and kids not being glued to their phones 😀

Thanks Diane for a great weekend and we will be looking to come back next May BH.

Liked Great site if you want to get back to basics. Relaxing and relatively peaceful with plenty of open space. The poor internet and phone reception meant that the phones were put away, apart from taking photos. Both the grandchildren and dogs absolutely loved it!

Liked A lot of space, clean and spacious toilets and showers, nice location. Sissinghurst gardens can be reached by foot in 30 minutes. Take the route apple maps gives you, google maps takes a huge detour.

Liked We had the best few days camping here. When we arrived we were only 1 of 4 other campers it was fantastic. Great views and so much space.
Lovely new clean facilities. Campsite was quiet and well kept.

Liked Plenty of space, new, clean facilities. The fruit trees make a nice edge to the camping field. Didn't feel like we were crammed in even though it was a late booking on an August weekend. Book ahead for the local pubs.

Liked Lovely, quiet and peaceful campsite with loads of space in a beautiful plum orchard setting. The amenities were all clean and modern. A really relaxing place to stay — would definitely recommend!

Leeds Castle (25 minutes’ drive) has a host of activities, from guided tours to jousting tournaments and raptor displays, to keep families entertained all day. There are rose gardens to wander in Sissinghurst Castle Garden (10 minutes), and at moated Scotney Castle (25 minutes) you can follow trails through landscaped parkland. There’s more active stuff to do too; kids with energy to burn can wear themselves out on zipwires or mountain-biking trails at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest (20 minutes), or on the inflatable course at Bewl Water Aqua Park (25 minutes).
