With easy access from the A12 and A14, plus 12 acres of peaceful natural land to its name, Low Farm Campsite is an excellent spot for an easy escape in a splendid Suffolk setting. This lovely location is part of the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, and the owners of the site are doing their bit to preserve the local landscapes by returning their farmland to nature. As part of that approach, the guest areas have been designed to sit nicely in the natural setting, with plenty of space so that you’ll never feel crammed in even if the place is full. The idea here is to create peaceful, simple experiences, and with that in mind the owners have set the place up as an adults-only site with just the essential facilities – guests have access to toilets, showers, a washing-up area and a chemical disposal point. Dogs are welcome as long as they’re kept on a leash on site – the area’s footpaths and open spaces mean you shouldn’t struggle to find a place for a good walk (whether you’ve got a dog or not). You’re allowed to set up a barbecue here if you’d like to do some outdoor cookery, but there are also a couple of pubs within walking distance serving up good food for those times when you don’t feel like it. Also within easy walking distance is a river beach on the River Deben, with boat trips available. Woodbridge (10 minutes’ drive) and Ipswich (20 minutes) are also close by for shops and places to eat.

Em va agradar Low Farm is easy to find. Contactless check-in meant we could get straight on pitch and set up. Nice flat pitches and a good size. Electric pitches are altogether. Separate toilet and shower blocks, but situated side by side. Very clean facilities. Perfect for our requirements for an overnight stay close to Woodbridge because of dropping off/picking up our son from a Scout camp in the area. Highly recommend a visit to the town for a good range of independent shops, the friendly people, a visit to see a viking ship being built and a lovely area by the river to explore. Also highly recommend a table at The Maybush pub, just 20 minutes walk from the campsite. It is located on the River Deben. We will definitely stay again at Low Farm if back in the area as a couple. Just the type of site we've come to expect from pitchup.com.

Em va agradar Great open site. Plenty of space to camp (we had two small tents and a camper van from our small group (4)) and so it was great that we could camp together.

Facilities were immaculate. Hiring of fire pits and wood was very reasonable.

The Maybush is close by. This site is amazing. We'll most certainly be back!

No em va agradar Nothing, except (and this is not a criticism) would love this site to be open longer in the year or maybe a small part of it, im an all weather camper but have to wait months for it to open again before I can return :)

Em va agradar The site is really well situated - easy to access by vehicle, close to main roads, but also close to footpaths and bike routes. It is peaceful and full of birds in the hedges and trees. The facilities are modern and clean; great showers! Reception was friendly and helpful. Emailed directions were clear and arrived promptly.

No em va agradar Some of the electric pitches are quite close together but that is a minor issue when the overall site is so large. Out of season, I never had to wait for the toilets, showers or washing up areas but it is a large site and I imagine that over summer Bank Holidays, there could be queues at the single block of facilities. There was no WiFi - not a problem but might be an issue for some.

Works by Constable and Gainsborough are among the highlights of the art collection at the 16th-century Christchurch Mansion, just north of the town centre in Ipswich (20 minutes' drive). Restaurants and bars line the redeveloped Ipswich Waterfront, where it’s also possible to go on boat trips along the River Orwell. Discovered in 1939, the burial ground at National Trust - Sutton Hoo (20 minutes) yielded an Anglo-Saxon warrior’s boat grave laden with precious artefacts, from an ornate helmet to intricate gold jewellery and gemstones. Most of the treasure is now in London’s British Museum, but there are replicas here, plus a tower to survey the burial ground from above. Fancy a little water-based action? Head to Alton Water Sports Centre (25 minutes), where you can have a go at paddleboarding, hire a canoe to explore this large reservoir, or bounce and slide on the inflatables at the water park. Alton Water also has a couple of fishing spots, bird hides and viewpoints.
