The Broads National Park and the handsome historic city of Norwich are both around 20 minutes’ drive from Whispering Oaks, on the outskirts of Horsford in central Norfolk. If you fancy a camping holiday full of walking or cycling, boat cruises or days on North Norfolk beaches, this site puts you where you need to be. Whispering Oaks has grass pitches set under mature oaks and welcomes couples, families and well-behaved dogs. It’s down a country lane close to livestock, horses (keep your dogs on lead around the animals, please) and arable fields, and is surrounded by wildlife and nature. The site is accessed through a locked, gated entrance for guest security. Showers and toilets can be used for an additional fee, and aside from that, the facilities cover electric hook-ups, water taps, a tipping point and rubbish and recycling bins. The owners ask that you please use green chemicals while on the pitches, in line with their green credentials.

Em va agradar Everything.
Its small
Its quiet
Its perfect.

No em va agradar Nothing really. If I'm being really really really picky, we would have liked sink washing up facilities for dishes. And maybe a pedestrian gate at the main entrance as we went for walks regularly. But this doesn't stop us giving 10/10 - and it doesn't stop this site going to the top of our list of local getaway sites. We look forward to staying here again (and hope they are as busy as they were this time 😉)

Em va agradar We had a fantastic stay at this campsite. The location is absolutely amazing—set in a beautiful village and surrounded by nature, with ducks, geese, and plenty of birdlife to enjoy. It’s a small CL site, which is exactly what we look for: peaceful, relaxed, and not overcrowded.

The owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which really added to the experience. It’s also perfectly situated—just 20 minutes from Norwich and about 15 minutes from Wroxham and the Broads, with a cycle trail nearby, so there’s plenty to explore.

The site had just reopened ahead of our stay, and the new shower facilities were finished in time for our arrival. They’re modern, clean, and very comfortable—definitely a great addition.

Overall, a lovely, peaceful site in a beautiful setting—we’ll definitely return.

No em va agradar There’s one shower to be shared. It wasn’t an issue for us, as during our stay we had it to ourselves, which felt like a bit of a luxury! (When we booked it was advertised without facilities, so it was a bonus having them).

As well as hiking and biking along local countryside paths, you might like to take a trip up to North Norfolk beaches like Cromer (35 minutes’ drive) and Wells-next-the-Sea (45 minutes). Don’t forget the walking shoes though, as you can stride out along the Norfolk Coast Path (it’s 40 minutes to pick it up at Waxham), which hugs the coastline between Hunstanton and Hopton-on-Sea. If you’d like to factor some culture into your holiday schedule, you’re in luck. The National Trust owns grand Tudor-era Blickling Estate (20 minutes), the stately former home of Anne Boleyn; 15th-century Felbrigg Hall, Gardens & Estate, where you can tour lavish period interiors; and Sheringham Park (both 35 minutes), known for its colourful rhododendron and azalea gardens. If that’s not your scene, hire a cruiser to potter down waterways from Wroxham (20 minutes) in the Broads National Park, or take the kids to follow the dinosaur trail at ROARR! (15 minutes). You can also test your fitness on jungle bridges and marsh walks at BeWILDerwood Norfolk (20 minutes), or take younger kids to cuddle the Shetland ponies at Hillside Animal Sanctuary (15 minutes).
