Opened by the Shingler family in 1974, Lower Lacon Caravan Park is just a mile from the stunning market town of Wem in north Shropshire. With train and bus services in Wem being within walking distance, the site has easy access to plenty of local attractions, including Shrewsbury, Ellesmere and Whitchurch (which are all within 25 minutes' drive of the site if you'd rather take your own transport). The site has a very convenient and secure set-up, with a barrier system, 24-hour emergency cover and a warden and owners living on site. There are two play areas on site, as well as crazy golf and a heated outdoor swimming pool with a toddler's paddling pool (please take note that the pools are only open during high season for pre-booked sessions only, and weather dependent). For extra entertainment, the J.A.K.K.S. Barn (open on weekends during low season and closed during winter) has a bar and occasional family discos. When you're hungry, pick up snacks at the on-site supermarket, which also has an off-licence. The J.A.K.K.S. café and takeaway (open on weekends during low season and closed during winter) are on hand for further refreshments. By the pool, there's the choice of CJ's Snack Bar (weather dependent) and the adults-only Windmill Lounge Bar (only open during high season or on weekends during low season and winter), which has a marquee. Lower Lacon Caravan Park has a pretty cool backstory, having started as the back entrance for the Aston Park American Army Camp, a munitions and distribution depot built in World War II (on land purchased from owner Clive's paternal grandfather). During its development, a D8 bulldozer sank in the soil, so the land was covered with three feet of solid materials from local foundries; this can make placing pegs difficult but it also means that the team have never had to turn away any customers due to bad weather as the pitches stay firm.

Em va agradar Very helpful and friendly staff, very informative. And was told if I needed anything at all 24 hours to call them. Being a single mum this was nice to hear.
Large pitch (orange) close to portable facilities (very clean) an a short walk to permanent facilities.
Good pool, booking system easy to use, shop has a good selection of food, good selection of food throughout the day. Evening entertainment disco an bingo was good. Weekend singer was great too. Prices were reasonable on everything. 2 different play parks for the kids, safe an secure.
Would recommend and will be returning.

Would love to be able to feed the animals.

Em va agradar A good spacious pitch. Swimming pool and children's playgrounds enjoyed by our grandchildren. Portacabin toilets and showers near our pitch were good.

No em va agradar If you are in the orange section, quite a long walk to the shop and swimming pool.

Em va agradar Lovely facilities, well organised and friendly checking - my kids loved seeing the pigs.

No em va agradar The young lady in the shop was quite short with my daughter who was selecting a toy to buy - no need for that in a family campsite shop. My daughter didn’t tell me until we got outside and I said I’m surprised you didn’t ask for a squishy toy and she said the woman shouted at her. Had I seen it happen I’d have said something.

Em va agradar The place was so nice, had everything you needed. Staff and rangers were so welcoming.

No em va agradar When we turned up and got to our plot what we paid nearly £200 that said can have upto 2 cars which I thought included my family’s camper van meaning we could have tent still. Which it never stated and got told it was health and safety reasons and wasn’t aloud so pictures got took and sent to boss to see if we could stay or not. we were not out of plot that we paid for( for 3 nights) with the car camper van and tent still inside the 1 plot we paid for. and we got told that if we paid extra £60 they will by pass it. Which really boils down too not health and safety reasons just wanting extra money! We paid it as not a problem paying the extra what annoyed me was don’t say it was for health and safety when that didn’t mind when paying extra money and then looking around camp the was plots that had more than what we did. So I don’t get why we got singled out. We have never been anywhere were you can’t put what you want on the plot you paid for.
Also we were right next to a pathway with wooden post to which was Broken and I nearly fell through and so did my kids, so so much for health and safety when not getting extra money the can’t even fix posts to make sure they are safe.

Em va agradar Large pitch, lots of bins and taps.

No em va agradar Rules for one and not another!
Was sited by a warden onto no4 but he didn't instruct no3 and no2 on their incorrect pitching, basically they put both their tents the wrong way using our pitch for guide ropes , their two families were basically including themselves onto our pitch using no 2 to park their cars , we had no privacy as the warden parked us in camper as per rules but no one asked them to pitch correctly . Everyone camping on the 2nd row behind us used our pitch to walk thru , we asked numerous times for them to stop cutting through as we had dog and all our family came for a picnic its was not a pleasant experience, our visiting daughter had her dog who was attacked by another person's dog off a lead, why bother having rules for us and then everyone else just did what they wanted.

Em va agradar Amazing camp site with plenty for the kids to do. The swimming, the club house, cafe, shop and mini golf. Pitches are reasonable in size.

No em va agradar All the pitches being crammed In together side by side. Its okay if you're camping with family on separate pitches and can all be together, but when you have families either side of you who constantly argue and the kids are fighting and crying all day, it becomes the pontins of camping.

Take yourself to spots like the British Ironwork Centre (35 minutes), Blists Hill Victorian Town (40 minutes) and Royal Air Force Museum Midlands (40 minutes), or pretend like you've gone back in time at Attingham Park (25 minutes), a National Trust site. The Quarry (half an hour) is a gorgeous spot for a little stroll in Shrewsbury, and if you fancy something a bit more challenging, Hawkstone Park Follies (five minutes) has sandstone hills and caves. If you're looking for activities that'll entertain the kids, however, make a beeline for Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World (35 minutes). The site is near plenty of historic Shropshire towns and villages, from Hodnet (10 minutes) and Ellesmere (20 minutes) to Market Drayton (20 minutes) and Oswestry (40 minutes).
