New Berry Farm is in pole position when it comes to entertaining the kids. The Ark Wildlife Park and Rescue Zoo Lincolnshire (five minutes' drive) is home to rare big cats, reptiles and raptors, and children can feed endangered tigers at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park (10 minutes). If that doesn’t wear them out, let them loose on the rides at Fantasy Island Adventure Park or take them to Skegness beach (both half an hour), which has all manner old-fashioned fun in the summer, from fairgrounds to donkey rides and an amusement arcade on the pier. This is also a handy base if you’re interested in aviation history, with an aircraft viewing area at RAF Coningsby (20 minutes), plus exhibitions at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre (10 minutes) and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitors Centre (20 minutes). And if you’re simply looking forward to getting hiking boots on and being out in gorgeous countryside, the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour) is waiting to be explored on foot or by bike, with numerous trails from family-centric to challenging.
