To the sea, to the sea, to the sea near Skeg-ee… A-spire to a campsite in Lincolnshire’s Chapel St Leonards for a serene seaside time on England’s east side, where if you tire of swimming from and sandcastle building on the miles of award-winning sandy beach (tut), a more reflective time awaits among the birdwatching and coastal viewing at the town landmark of Chapel St Point. Walk from promenade to Point; fish and chips from the cafés along the way should taste pretty sublime from here too.
Along with ice cream, fish and chips, cold cold beer and a beach to caper on (preferably with canine), our other beloved beachside pastime is bargain hunting. If this too is you, Chapel St Leonards’s weekly summer market and sensibly regular car boot sales should sort you right out; if this is not you, wander five minutes out of town to the lakeside carp fishery while the other half hunts).
Also just out of town for those camping in Chapel St Leonards, Skeg-ee, aka Skegness, is a quick jaunt up the coast, as are the other Lincolnshire seaside sites of Sutton-on-Sea, Ingoldmells, Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes.
