Backed by the River Severn and edging the Forest of Dean, Rivers View Holidays is a peaceful spot sheltered by mature trees and surrounded by fields, five minutes’ drive from Westbury-on-Severn in Gloucestershire. Off-grid accommodation is in pre-pitched bell tents sleeping up to four, so you can arrive on site and relax without having to put up a tent – handy for families with young kids who want to get on with the serious business of holidaying straight away. You won’t need to bring too much kit with you either, as each tent is provided with basic crockery – from plates to cutlery and saucepans – so you can cook on the small camping stove, and there’s a kettle plus complimentary tea and coffee to get your stay off on the right footing. Bedding is supplied, but please remember to bring your own towels. Outside, there are picnic benches, a barbecue and firepit for alfresco dining and enjoying the river views on warmer evenings – buy charcoal and kindling on site, and pick up other supplies in the supermarkets of Cinderford (15 minutes’ drive). There’s also a shared kitchen area for washing up, and showers are next to the parking area. The riverside pitches make great vantage points for watching the famed Severn Bore surge up the river, and you can access footpaths straight from the site for long country walks (take a picnic with you, there’s a basket in your tent). Need more action? Bring bikes to explore rural lanes or trails in the forest, go fishing or have a round of golf (both within 10 minutes’ drive).

Nice big tent with comfortable beds
Gas stove, bbq, firepit, picnic table, chairs all there so we literally didn’t need any of our camping gear
Nice individual toilets and showers, great water pressure, forgot we were camping!

Em va agradar The bell tents are like a tardis. Inside is most things you would need to camp. Coffee tea and biscuits were a nice touch. It was so peaceful and beautiful

Em va agradar Love it here, everything you need and more. A 1 night stay felt like a week. Beds super comfy! Fav was making Smores on the fire pit with my kids, and hiring bikes to do the Colliers Trail, with a stop at Mallards Pike for lunch.

No em va agradar Only 1 toilet as other one has no lock.

Em va agradar Lovely place ,excellent location on the river. Colin was a friendly and helpful host would visit again .

No em va agradar Only small gripe ,a bit isolated , nice 30min walk along river to pub but check opening times was closed when we got there.

Em va agradar Had an absolutely amazing experience at rivers view .site was spotlessly clean and the bell tent was beautiful with an amazing views of the river and surrounding areas. BIG thank you to Colin made us feel so welcome and he even let us stay past the booking out time and gave us half bag charcoal for the barbecue no charge really nice friendly guy.Highlight was reclining on the sun loungers looking up the stars no light pollution so could see millions really special.Carnt recommend this place enough 10/10

Kids reluctant to go for a walk? Take them to the Forest of Dean (10 minutes’ drive), where hopefully they’ll be enchanted by the wacky, weird and colourful installations along the way-marked Sculpture Trail. They might also be tempted by the tangle of tracks at Puzzlewood (half an hour), with trees and boulders smothered by moss and lichen, and more importantly – to the kids, at least – where scenes from Harry Potter were filmed. There are more Harry Potter locations in the intricately vaulted cloisters at Gloucester Cathedral (20 minutes), a masterpiece of Gothic Perpendicular architecture. A snoop around the former warehouses at Gloucester Quays reveals waterfront restaurants and museums, as well as the start of gentle family walks along the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. Still staying outside, have a stroll around the exquisite water garden at National Trust-owned Westbury Court Garden (five minutes), or see the remains of the bathhouse complex and ornate mosaic pavements at Great Witcombe Roman Villa (half an hour). Caught a rainy day? Take yourselves off to the Jet Age Museum (20 minutes, weekends only) to check out the vintage planes.
