Set in a perry pear orchard on an organic cattle farm: that sounds almost poetic. As are the views from the spectacularly scenic little place of West End Farm Campsite, set in the horseshoe bend of the River Severn on the edge of the peaceful Gloucestershire village of Arlingham, and adjacent to the river with easy access to the footpaths of the Severn Way. A rather smashing pub is within easy walking distance too: the Red Lion freehouse (owned by the village, hurrah) with tiptop locally sourced food, real ale and regular events like quiz nights and folk nights – all just the ticket after a peaceful pedal or serene stroll along the river paths or region's quiet flat roads…? West End Farm has a toilet block and chemical disposal. Both barbecues and campfires are allowed on site.

Em va agradar The pitches were nice and flat and separated via hedges which was nice to be kept private. I also liked the fact there was a few local walks straight from the campsite. There wasn’t very strong signal or any WiFi so it was nice to be at one with nature :-)

No em va agradar Facilities cleanliness was very poor. I stayed for 2 nights and you could tell that they hadn’t been cleaned properly in a long time, and certainly not done whilst I was there. Just make sure to bring your own toilet roll and shoes for the shower and you will be fine.

Em va agradar Lovely clean site, peaceful, in a good location to a gorgeous cafe and amazing pub. Toilets and shower were better than other basic facilities I’ve camped with. Communication with owners was extremely limited and it’s self check in and you choose your own spot but if you’re experienced, respectful campers then that’s fabulous and it was nice to choose our own spot.

Em va agradar Great location and 10 minute walk to the Red Lion - great food. The Farmers yard cafe was excellent. Thomas was very helpful with our booking

No em va agradar Whilst we appreciate the simple site the Toilets were not cleaned and the Elsan point could do with a clean and the hose is just on an old rubber fitting which leaks. The Freshwater and grey waste are in a very awkward corner especially if someone is pitched next to it and we saw one Motorhome hit the gatepost trying to get to it

Em va agradar Lovely little campsite, exactly as described. Really liked bay tree hedges between each pitch to give privacy, while not being isolated from other campers.

No em va agradar Electric hook up was a bit of a stretch for our 5m lead, however camp site provides extension if needed.

Em va agradar Lovely quiet campsite! Great toilet and shower facilities was a great last stop to our road trip! Love the bushes separating each pitch gives you the extra bit of privacy!

Em va agradar Lovely spot, very quiet. Generous pitches with laurel hedges in between.
Good washing up area and clean single loo and wash basin.

No em va agradar All the bins needed emptying as they were overflowing.
The showers were a bit grubby.

No-one around to check in with.

Em va agradar Ease of access and size of pitches. Toilet and shower was a good set up with hot water and good water pressure. Great location with river side walk and.pub all within walking distance. Great for a non complicated, back to basics visit.

From M5, come off at Junction 13 and take the A38 towards Bristol. You will shortly see a garage on the left. Take the right turning signposted Frampton-on-Severn and continue to The Bell public house on the left. Pass through Frampton, continue straight over the canal bridge and go straight across (SP Arlingham and Fretherne). Do not follow the road to Saul. Continue for approximately 3 miles entering the village of Arlingham and turn left at Red Lion public house into Church Road. Pass the church on your right and West End Farm is on the right in about 250 yards.

West End Farm Campsite's local village is Arlingham, also in the River Severn's horseshoe bend and just off Junction 13 of the M5. The area around the village is fab walking and cycling land, of public footpaths, riverside ambles and flat peaceful roads – all set among the first-class scenery of the England/Wales border area. (Don't know where to start? Ask at the Red Lion for details of their hare, salmon, cattle and skylark wanders.) A couple of miles from the farm is the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, running between Sharpness and the old docks of Gloucester. It's a pleasant place to while away a few meandering hours, particularly around Patch Bridge, close to the Wildfowl Reserve at Slimbridge which has the world's biggest collection of captive wildfowl. Other local options are Berkeley and the Edward Jenner Museum, where the clever chap first figured out vaccination, and Berkeley Castle, where poor old Edward 2 met his grisly end. Gloucester Cathedral is nine miles from the site; a little further afield are the Norman castle of Goodrich and the Tudor National Trust-managed house of Newark Park.
