Mountain views, sandy beaches and a rich cultural heritage – what more do you need to click on the green button and book your spot at adults-only Afon Braint? This peaceful rural site – which is so close to the Welsh river of the same name and its Giant Rhuddgaer Stepping Stones (15 minutes’ walk), it has borrowed that very name for itself – sits on Anglesey’s south-eastern corner, within the coastal belt that makes up the Anglesey National Landscape. On the A4080 road between the villages of Niwbwrch (just under a mile, about 20 minutes on foot) and Dwyran (five minutes’ drive or a 25-minute walk), Afon Braint comes with spacious gravel touring pitches all with the option for electric hook-up. The site also has essentials such as a toilet block and fresh drinking water, a washing-up area and grey and chemical waste disposal points. Spectacular views of the peaks of Eryri (Snowdonia) accompany the meals you consume in the picnic area. The nearest pub is in Niwbwrch, which also has a fish and chip shop and a supermarket, with more shopping and dining options in Llangefni (20 minutes) and Bangor (25 minutes). Windswept strolls await at Maes Parcio Ynys Llanddwyn and Newborough Beach (15 minutes), a nature reserve with a large dune system, marshes and a pine forest, plus tidal Llanddwyn Island (20 minutes), with a lighthouse overlooking the rocky shore.

喜欢 The thoughtfulness of the site design, the lights at night working from sensors as you need them rather than wasting electricity. It’s small but has what’s needed. It’s little information hut, picnic benches, a wooden bench by each pitch and view of the mountains.

来自经理: Hi Helen, thank you for your review. We're delighted to hear that you liked the facilities that the site has to offer. I'm sorry that there was a strong smell on the first night, which you have also written to me privately about. A complaint about an unpleasant smell was made during that same evening too - on investigation it was found to be a firepit on the end pitch (which we don't allow) burning a rather strange mix of materials, so this perhaps could be the same issue you were referring to. Not long after the firepit was extinguished, did the smell go away. I do apologise for not inforning you it was safe to come back out of your van - had I been aware this was an issue for you as well, I would have kept you fully updated on the matter.

Lovely cafe on sight. Ian was very helpful with local walks.
Newborough beach (dog friendly)about 45 mins walk away along a coastal path. Can’t wait to visit again

喜欢 Nick was very welcoming and helpful. The views of Snowdonia beyond the Menai Straits were lovely. The loos were always very clean. Only four pitches meant it was not crowded. Good security. Very near excellent Y Marram restaurant and convenient for Newborough Forest and beach.

不喜欢 It’s a pity there are no showers but it does make this clear on the website. The adjacent road intrudes a bit but quietens down at night.

A drive along the Menai Strait takes you past National Trust - Plas Newydd House and Gardens (15 minutes’ drive), with a large mural by early 20th-century artist Rex Whistler, to Pili Palas Nature World (20 minutes), home to meerkats, lizards and butterflies. Continue on to Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens (20 minutes) for strolls among woodland and past waterfalls. Alongside collections of archaeology and local crafts, Oriel Môn (20 minutes) also displays works by modern and contemporary artists such as Charles Tunnicliffe, known for his depictions of birds, and landscape painter Sir John Kyffin Williams. Cross the modern Britannia Bridge (or drive a little further to the Victorian Menai Suspension Bridge) and on to Caernarfon (half an hour), where a multiturreted medieval castle sits at the mouth of the river Afon Seiont. Stroll along the marina or climb up to the Caernarfon Tower for far-reaching views across the Menai Strait.
