Mountain views, sandy beaches and a rich cultural heritage – what more do you need to click on the green button and book your spot at adults-only Afon Braint? This peaceful rural site – which is so close to the Welsh river of the same name and its Giant Rhuddgaer Stepping Stones (15 minutes’ walk), it has borrowed that very name for itself – sits on Anglesey’s south-eastern corner, within the coastal belt that makes up the Anglesey National Landscape. On the A4080 road between the villages of Niwbwrch (just under a mile, about 20 minutes on foot) and Dwyran (five minutes’ drive or a 25-minute walk), Afon Braint comes with spacious gravel touring pitches all with the option for electric hook-up. The site also has essentials such as a toilet block and fresh drinking water, a washing-up area and grey and chemical waste disposal points. Spectacular views of the peaks of Eryri (Snowdonia) accompany the meals you consume in the picnic area, and there’s also a restaurant with a large patio and covered pods if you want to take in the mountain vistas regardless of the weather. The nearest pub is in Niwbwrch, which also has a fish and chip shop and a supermarket, with more shopping and dining options in Llangefni (20 minutes) and Bangor (25 minutes). Windswept strolls await at Maes Parcio Ynys Llanddwyn and Newborough Beach (15 minutes), a nature reserve with a large dune system, marshes and a pine forest, plus tidal Llanddwyn Island (20 minutes), with a lighthouse overlooking the rocky shore.

Gostou Everything!! We decided on Thursday evening to go away for the weekend, so I went online to see what I could find that still had availability. Luckily I found Afon Braint had room for us and our 3 month old kitten, so I booked. On the way up, I received a message from Nick advising to ring him on arrival (between 1 & 5) and he would let us in the gate. As we got close to the site, I contacted Nick to let him know we were running behind about 40 minutes as our van wouldn't start in the morning.

We arrived around 5.30pm and he met us at the gate to let us in. He then walked us around the site showing us where everything was. Amazingly, he offered to take our pizza orders if we wanted them, then brought them to our van when they were done (6.15pm). The pizzas were absolutely phenomenal. The views are gorgeous, bathrooms clean and breakfast at the cafe was good. It's a nice, small peaceful site and I am so glad we stumbled across it online and were able to get in. We'll definitely be back!!

Gostou The chap meeting us was very helpful and gave us a very comprehensive tour around. The location is quite. The facilities are good and there are some amazing dog walks near by.
Sadly the Whistle stop café wasn't open when we were there so can not comment.

Gostou Upon arrival I was greeted by the owner who was extremely friendly and welcoming. He personally gave me a tour of the facilities and gave helpful suggestions of local walks, areas of interest etc. There is a small cabin with plenty of information available and even a variety of games you can use.
The whole site ( with 5 spacious bays) is well thought out with great views. The facilities are excellent, and toilet block is very clean. Good WiFi connection too! There is an on site cafe which provide a variety of food and drink but was unfortunately closed at the time of my visit.

Gostou Fabulous location and views. Walking paradise. Good amenities except no shower. Very clean and tidy, really friendly and informative staff. Excellent quality food in the cafe, offering resident evening meals.

Não gostou The only reason for not giving a 10 is the unfortunate smell from the chicken farm, due to the wind direction whilst we were there. No showers.

Gostou The site is what I would class as a "Boutique Site". Its small, only 5 main pitches but very well set out and very nicely kept. All facilities were spotless and it also boasts an on-site cafe which is also licensed for alcohol. Every pitch has mains hook up and the sites secure at night. Great hospitality and a warm welcome awaits. I really liked it there and the views are fantastic.

Não gostou The only reason i gave 8 stars and not 10 is that the site has no shower facilities. Its such a shame as a nice shower here would just add the icing on a very nice cake!!

A drive along the Menai Strait takes you past National Trust - Plas Newydd House and Gardens (15 minutes’ drive), with a large mural by early 20th-century artist Rex Whistler, to Pili Palas Nature World (20 minutes), home to meerkats, lizards and butterflies. Continue on to Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens (20 minutes) for strolls among woodland and past waterfalls. Alongside collections of archaeology and local crafts, Oriel Môn (20 minutes) also displays works by modern and contemporary artists such as Charles Tunnicliffe, known for his depictions of birds, and landscape painter Sir John Kyffin Williams. Cross the modern Britannia Bridge (or drive a little further to the Victorian Menai Suspension Bridge) and on to Caernarfon (half an hour), where a multiturreted medieval castle sits at the mouth of the river Afon Seiont. Stroll along the marina or climb up to the Caernarfon Tower for far-reaching views across the Menai Strait.
