How to sum up Penllystyn Farm? There's a lot to like about this Gwynedd smallholding site, but the three main highlights have got to be the seriously good views, waterside walks and all-round chilled farm vibes. Here you'll be sitting pretty in the small village of Bryncir, just outside Snowdonia National Park and a 10-minute drive from the coast. Around the 10-acre site are a handful of farm animals along with a small woodland area and a riverside picnic spot, where you can also take a paddle or let the dogs cool off with a dip. Picnics, barbecues and campfires are all encouraged around here, but there’s also a good local pub/restaurant half a mile away if you fancy eating out. It should be pretty easy to reach the other amenities in the surrounding area, as the farm is just off the speedy A487 main road. Where that road takes you is totally up to you, but one thing's for sure – you won't feel boxed in here. To the east, you have the myriad walks and adventurous activities of Snowdonia, while those who head north will be rewarded with such spots as Caernarfon Castle and Anglesey. Meanwhile, set your sights on the south or west for days out on the spectacular beaches of the Llŷn Peninsula, treks around the wild Wales Coast Path or sightseeing in the pastel-coloured town of Portmeirion.

The space, the animals, the stream which my boys loved walking in and how close you are to everything!
Loved it that much we booked an extra 2 nights and will 100% be coming back again very soon
The showers and toilets are very clean and the site is well looked after
Pippen the dog is very cute, isn’t shy at all and will come to your tent. My boys played fetch with her for about and hour and she came and sat with us a few times

喜欢 Lovely site, not busy when we visited so not on top of each other. Nice clean lavatories & sink with hot water. A very tidy & clean site, 10 mins away from criccieth by car. Would definitely recommend!

喜欢 Quiet campsite, not far from the mountains. Facilities were always clean and although there was only two toilets and one shower we never queued or had to wait for either. Dog loved having a swim in the stream on the edge of the campsite. Not that close to a shop though so do come prepared.

不喜欢 If you're afraid of dogs, you might not like that the resident dog runs free and often hangs around waiting for food. It's quite hard to chase her away as she's deaf, so not the easiest if you're not relaxed around dogs.

The two toilets were designated male and female, it would make more sense to remove the signs and have anyone use the next free toilet.

喜欢 A very pleasant campsite on a working farm - we had a beautiful large pitch, amongst trees and next to a clean stream. The location was good, with easy access to roads to the beaches north and south. The toilet and shower block was clean and well-maintained. This was a great campsite for kids to run around and play.

不喜欢 We would have liked to use a pup-tent - the large size of the pitches would have fitted one in easily.

Fancy trading in your walking boots for old-fashioned steam train trips? The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway (15 minutes) can sort visitors with whistle-stop tours of the spectacular local landscape. For something a bit more active, Zip World Slate Caverns (35 minutes) should fit the bill with its zipwires, trampolines and underground play park. Older kids in your crew might be more taken by the action-packed activities laid on at Adventure Parc Snowdonia (an hour), including top-rated watersports like freshwater surfing.
