How does a spacious, back-to-basics site sound? How about if it were inside a spectacular national park, with stunning views of the mountains? If you answered ‘pretty fab, ta very much’, get motors running all the way to Fronalchen Caravan Park, a family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from Dolgellau in Gwynedd. Ramblers, hikers, bikers and riders are well served hereabouts, as the site’s in Eryri/Snowdonia National Park: Torrent Walk (a four-mile circular route along the River Clywedog gorge) starts less than five minutes away and the mountain biking tracks of Coed-y-Brenin are within half an hour. It's about 20 minutes from here to pony trekking excursions too... surely one of the most photogenic ways to venture around this part of the world...? If this all sounds a tad too hectic, slow things down a notch with a lazy beach day. There are lengthy sandy stretches in Fairbourne and Barmouth (both 20 minutes from base), where hitting the waves on a surfboard or signing up for a fishing trip are highly recommended. Fancy a few zero-fuss days instead? Retreat back to base, where there’s little to distract from gorgeous views of Cadair Idris (hikes start around 40 minutes away) and the mountains around it, and there’s lots of room for kickabouts, dog walks, cosy campfires by the riverbank and leisurely barbecues.

不喜欢 De faciliteiten! Er was geen warm water om af te wassen, zeep was steeds op bij de toiletten. Geen bankje in de douche. Veel mensen reden hard met auto's over terrein. Tenten stonden (op een drukke zaterdag) heel dicht op elkaar. Er was verder ook niks voor kinderen.

来自经理: Thank you for your feedback. We are disheartened to read your comments, particularly regarding our new facilities. Our shower and toilet block is newly built and maintained to a high standard.

We continue to work hard to improve the site further and hot water for washing up is deifinitly next on the list. We apologise for the soap running out once during the weekend, we replaced this immeditely to avoid any further disapointment to our guests.

We take vehicle speeds on site seriously and have clear signage asking all guests to drive slowly. Unfortunately, we cannot control every driver's behaviour at all times, but we do remind guests whenever concerns are brought to our attention or see cars driving unsafe.

As for the pitches, your stay was during one of our busiest Saturdays of the season. We never exceed our capacity, although naturally the site feels busier on peak weekends than at quieter times.

Finally, we make no claim to offer children's play facilities, and this is reflected in the price of your stay. We offer ourselves as a "stripped back" site. Many families choose us because they prefer a peaceful, rural campsite rather than one with organised entertainment, but we appreciate that this may not suit everyone's preferences.

We value genuine feedback that helps us improve, but we also encourage guests to raise any concerns during their stay so we have the opportunity to put things right immediately.

喜欢 A fantastic place with a large site and spacious pitches; nice toilets and plenty of room for walks. There is a small river right next to the campsite. It’s a 20-minute drive to the beautiful town of Barmouth, which has a great beach, and there are dog-friendly beaches a little further away.

In addition to the main toilets, there are portable toilets available for quick use. The check-in process was fast and pleasant, and the receptionist was very friendly and welcoming.

There is a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, and the campsite is laid out to catch the sun for most of the day. Hot water is available in the showers at any time, day or night. A petrol station and Starbucks are nearby (within walking distance). Fire pits are available for free on-site, and firewood can be purchased for £6.

不喜欢 Over the weekend, when there were a lot of people on the grounds, the women's restroom ran out of toilet paper and hand soap.

It would also be good to have more hooks in the shower and toilet area for hanging things up instead of putting them on the floor, though this is definitely a suggestion for improvement rather than a negative point.

喜欢 Campsite was clean the shower blocks where clean and had hot water. Very good for family's as there is plenty of space for the kids to run around

不喜欢 The road going to the campsite is very narrow if you are going down with a caravan and there is some one else coming along there is no way around

喜欢 Fantastic site, large open field. Didn’t use the facilities so cannot comment on those. Great views and we were lucky enough to have some planes fly over. Plenty of space for the kids to run around. Great location to get to Dolgellau for a morning coffee in the cafe and 20 minute drive to Barmouth beach.

喜欢 Great private campsite. Well kept and peaceful. Lovely views and little stream. Toilets and amenities were clean new and very well kept. Would definitely recommend.

Start by poking around the ruins of Cymer Abbey, 10 minutes’ drive away, before diving into ancient Welsh legend beneath the earth in King Arthur’s Labyrinth, chugging along tracks on one of the local heritage narrow gauge railways, and exploring the spectacularly sited Harlech Castle, all within 45 minutes of base. Prefer the wind in your hair? Pick up speed on the ziplines at Zip World Slate Caverns and on the downhill biking trails at Antur Stiniog, both about 40 minutes away, or stick closer to home (10 minutes) to keep eyes peeled for low-flying jets at the famed Mach Loop. Outdoorsy types may want to travel the 20 minutes to Cregennan Lakes instead, where there are lots of trails to traipse along, as well as two lakes for trout fishing. Not your bag? The subtropical Portmeirion Gardens 40 minutes away are an absolute must for budding horticulturalists – be sure to explore this ‘Gwyltt’ (Welsh for wildwood) thoroughly, as there are secret gardens, a derelict castle and even a graveyard to root out.
