Hunting for a peaceful and secluded Somerset spot with a backdrop fit for a postcard? Stay at Wimbleball Holidays, 20 minutes' drive from Dulverton, and you can wake up to sublime views of Wimbleball Lake, a mere 50 metres away. The location is spot on if you fancy trying your hand at a range of watersports, including kayaking, canoeing, rowing, sailing and windsurfing. Walking, cycling, birdwatching and fishing are also popular picks if you’d rather appreciate the lake views while sticking to dry land. More? A 10-minute stroll along the shore of the lake will take you to the impressive Wimbleball Dam. This peaceful park is within Exmoor National Park, so think moorland, woodland and wildlife… and plenty of ways to explore it all. The area's also famed for its stargazing (it was Europe's first Dark Sky Reserve, no less), so come prepped to stay up late and turn sights skywards on a clear night. The site is on a working family farm and at certain times of year visitors are welcome to get involved with the running of it, with shearing to be done and lambs to be fed (go on – you know you want to have a go…). There are a couple of village pubs around two miles from the site but if you can’t tear yourself away from the views, barbecues and campfires are permitted on site. As for facilities, a washing-up area, toilets and showers are available on site.

喜欢 A wonderful campsite - beautifully small with only six pitches, great position a few mins walk from the lake, and all the facilities you need including a kettle to make that first morning tea so easily! Really recommend a stay here, we loved it.

喜欢 What wasn't too like? This peaceful site is lovely. Brian and Caroline were very welcoming with suggestions of places to visit or walk. I hired a firepit and enjoyed watching the flames each evening.
The facilities were very clean and the use of the fridge and freezer was ideal in the hot weather! It's not many places that you go and have swallows visiting you when you do the washing up.
The night sky on a clear night was amazing!

喜欢 The owner was brilliant! He made special giant bubbles for the kids, offered to grab us shopping when he was out doing his and was just generally lovely and really helpful! Being able to hire a firepit and purchase logs was so convenient and very reasonably priced too. The campsite is lovely, facilities are great, the availability of decent sized fridge and freezer as well as kettles was brilliant. The surrounding lake walks are beautiful with birds and butterflies everywhere you look! Lovely for an unplugged break. Great for families, would 1000% recommend

喜欢 Clean, peaceful, friendly. Camp site plots layed out lovely a little sign post letting you know which plot was yours. Only having 6 tents made the trip peaceful, but also everyone was so much more considerate. The owner bought came with a friendly welcome a tour of the site. Fridge, freezer and kettle. Sinks and toilets always spotless. The owner makes he's own bubble mix and gave the kids a tub of it which they loved. Balls, games and sports equipment free to use. The lake was so close and was absolutely something out of a story book. The site is close enough to walk to the activity centre to rent kayaks and paddle boards at a reasonable price. The camp site is close to old barns and going this time of year with the shallows and Martin's roosting was magical could watch them for hours. The site was people quite but alive with wildlife just amazing. The barn owl being the highlight! This has being the families new favourite place. We will be back every year. I could go on and on about all the places within a 30 minute drive. But duster castle is a must

There's direct access to Wimbleball Lake and its surrounding cycle path from the site, so you don’t have to go far for things to do… just up and go. The lake’s activity centre is less than a mile away; here you can get to grips with a host of activities on water and land, and there’s a high ropes course to tackle too. Swap the lake for the seafront if you’d rather, as Somerset’s beaches – including Minehead – are around half an hour's drive away. If you’re heading to Minehead and feel like seeking out a bit of history, Dunster village is about five minutes from there, for a wander around Dunster Castle, Conygar Tower and a working watermill. For family-friendly adventures, it’s all aboard the West Somerset Railway for a ride on a steam train (10 minutes away by car) or off to meet the ponies at Exmoor Pony Centre (half an hour). 40 minutes in the car will take you to the county town of Taunton for an array of high street and independent shops to keep shopaholics busy – historic Bath Place is a good spot to start with if you're partial to picking up bits in independent shops.
