Litton Lakes is a family-run Dorset lakeside site with spacious pitches and a modern shower block on a working farm in the pretty village of Litton Cheney. The area is something of a walkers’ paradise, with direct access to a network of footpaths and bridleways, and a dog-walking field just next to the site for any four-legged pals that haven’t had enough of a stretch. If you’d rather set out on two wheels you may like to note that National Cycle Route 2 passes the entrance to the site (and it’s suitable for cyclists of all ages and abilities). Back at base after any such outings, guests can get some more activity in by launching their paddleboards or kayaks on the lake, taking a dip in the fresh water or simply settling down to admire the far-reaching countryside views (firepits can be hired and logs are available to buy if you need a bit of warmth to help you dry off after a dip). And if what you really need is some sustenance? The site’s own Purple Turtle Café (open Friday to Sunday) should be your first port of call, for splendid cakes accompanied by cups of tea and freshly brewed coffee by the lake. You’re also welcome to light barbecues for bigger meals, or you might like to take a stroll down to the local pub, five minutes’ walk away. This is a peaceful and family-friendly site that’s particularly attractive for those with an interest in photography as there’s some gorgeous scenery to snap nearby. It’s also in an area of very low light pollution, so stargazing should be on the schedule too if possible.

喜欢: Absolutely gorgeous campsite. The whole weekend was amazing. Nice warm showers, clean toilets, friendly staff, dog friendly and beautiful walks and an absolutely beautiful lake and cafe.

喜欢: Loved the relaxed family feel to the campsite. Very well kept, super shower block. The lake was a treat 😁. Great site for the whole family and your furry friends.

喜欢: Lovely setting in beautiful countryside. The lake and lakeside cafe were great too. There is a stream running from the site which our dog loved. Well marked walks to the pub and further afield. The wood burners and starry skies are a great selling point.

不喜欢: The new toilet facilities looked great but lacked things like mirrors and running cold water. They were clean but the smaller block nearer the cafe were not cleaned in the time we were there. Toilet paper on the floor after 24 hours isn’t acceptable. Unfortunately the toilets and showers here are used by the day trippers as well as campers. Think this needs to be more clearly defined.

喜欢: Level grass pitches with plenty of space, even at the weekend. Clean facilities. Excellent cafe and just a few minutes walk along a dedicated footpath to a friendly local pub. We'll be back, again!

喜欢: Clean, tidy. Quiet and easy-going vibe. Peaceful location with plenty of birdlife. The lake is beautiful and so clear. Brilliant to be able to swim in it as part of the pitch cost. Great new shower/toilet/washing up block that’s solar powered. Lovely to not have any mirrors so posing is kept to a minimum!

喜欢: All of it! We've stayed 2 or 3 times before, great there are plenty of spacious showers and toilets and wash up sinks now..
The lake is obviously the main attraction, it's good to have the field next door for football so we didn't have to worry about the ball hitting people.
The cafe does amazing coffee, iced latte was spot on.

不喜欢: The showers in the new solar block weren't always hot, but they had only just opened and the owners were really responsive when made aware and sorted it quickly so it wouldn't put me off going back.

喜欢: We had a very warm welcome from the proprietress who showed us to our pitch and gave us the low down on the camp site and area. The site itself is stunning, peaceful and pretty. There is an onsite restaurant and lake. The facilities were superb. We loved it and we will be back!!!

喜欢: The peace and quiet, the pitch size and of course the paddleboarding on the lake, the choice of a fire pit and logs and the cafe. Very welcoming and definitely will return my son and daughter in law was also away and he proposed there.

Need a tipple to top off your evening by the lake? Take a 10-minute walk along to the village’s very own vineyard, Bride Valley Vineyard, for tours, tastings and a bottle or two to sip while the sun goes down. (If you’re more of a beer drinker, you’ll need to take the 15-minute drive to Palmers Brewery, which also runs excellent tours.) Time for the beach? Take your pick from the scenic offerings of West Bay and Burton Bradstock (both 15 minutes’ drive) and the 18-mile shingle stretch at Chesil Beach (half an hour), or head off to Weymouth (half an hour) to see the Sandworld sand sculptures and ogle the underwater beasts at the Sea Life Centre. Away from the coast, top days out might take you to Abbotsbury Swannery and gardens (20 minutes) or to explore the Teddy Bear Museum, Dinosaur Museum and Maiden Castle Iron Age fort in Dorchester (half an hour).
