A year-round adults-only site in the shade of distinctive Colmers Hill, Ernie’s Plot is easily reached from the A35. Not that you would know that a major road passes anywhere near: the site is surrounded by Dorset’s splendidly rural landscape, with hedgerows and leafy trees, inquisitive sheep in the nearby field and the occasional cameo by the local wildlife, mainly foxes and deer. Sitting halfway between Bridport and Chideock (five minutes’ drive to either), the site is also a five-minute drive from the spectacular Jurassic Coast, fringed by the South West Coast Path (cue epic walks with your four-legged companion) and dotted with pretty beaches – from pebbly Eype (which also happens to be dog-friendly), to Seatown, where you might bump into a fossil hunter or two. The touring pitches here are the Cadillacs of touring pitches: hardstanding, double-width and with water supply. Electric hook-up is coin-operated, so be sure to raid the piggy bank before your holiday, and come armed with plenty of £1 & £2 coins. And 50-pence coins, too – they will come in handy for the hot shower in the impeccably maintained toilet block. How’s this for luxury? One of the two cubicles comes with underfloor heating – bliss. Another elegant touch is the daily newspaper delivery (on request). Check out the information shed/shop, where you can get the timetable for the bus and brochures on nearby attractions, as well as essential items such as free-range eggs from the resident chooks, cheese and milk, and local meats.

喜欢 Lovely owners- nice welcome of a gift bag with cake and tea. Clean, fabulous toilets / showers and a really cute small shop with basics and fresh eggs from their own chickens.
Locally, fantastic farm shops, beaches and great dog walking from the site. Loads to do and places to visit.
Loved our week, already looking to rebook, thats looking difficult currently. 😢
Our stay was one week - wished we booked longer.

喜欢 Small site with nice spacious pitches, well kept with great views. Nice easy walk into Bridport, bus also available outside. Village of Symondsbury nearby and lovely courtyard centre with great cafe/restaurant and shops. Site owners very friendly.

不喜欢 Some road noise from main road, although you get used to it. Electric is by meter and appeared to gobble up coins like no tomorrow on Motorhome’s with big fridges. We were warned to bring coins however.

喜欢 Clean and well placed for walks/ accessing local amenities. Our dogs loved the freedom to wander and us not worrying. We loved the hospitality and people who stayed. The local pubs and cafes that Symondsbury offered were also very enjoyable.

不喜欢 The pitches could prove problematic for some larger caravans or if you have a large awning plus car.

喜欢 The site was really lovely and the pitches were spacious with privacy, lots of nice places to walk and only a short drive from other locations. Will definitely be returning!

不喜欢 The road close by could get a little noisy at times but nothing ear plugs won’t solve!

喜欢 Spacious pitches with great views of the hills and good for stargazing too. The picnic table was appreciated. We liked that it was a small site with friendly owner. Facilities were very clean.

喜欢 Spacious pitch. Lovely welcome from the owner with cake and cream treat. Checked in to see if we were settled. Great walks. Would recomend.

In Lyme Regis (20 minutes’ drive), be sure to find the Mary Anning Rocks statue, honouring the town’s most renowned fossil hunter (and her dog Tray), then walk along the beach all the way to the stone jetty known as The Cobb, from where you can admire a cracking sunset. Maumbury Rings Roman Amphitheatre, in Dorchester (half an hour), started life as a Neolithic henge, before morphing into an amphitheatre in Roman times and an artillery fort in the 17th century. On the outskirts of town, Maiden Castle is an elaborate Iron Age hill fort, while bookworms might be drawn to National Trust - Hardy’s Cottage, where the author wrote some of his early works. Chesil Beach (35 minutes) is an 18-mile long expanse of shingle sheltering the Fleet Lagoon, an area of salt marshes that’s home to an assortment of migrant birds. At its north-western end is the Abbotsbury Swannery, with daily feedings of the swan colony and a swan-shaped maze.
