Smytham Holiday Park is in north Devon in the grounds of a 17th-century manor house. Part open and part woodland, it's in its own cloistered valley with direct access to the walking and pedalling meanders of the Tarka Trail. It's also a rural and family-run campsite over 33 acres with a lot of wildlife and ponds to wander around, all part of the North Devon World Biosphere Reserve in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. An outdoor solar-heated summer pool with sun terrace is on site for swimming or basking in the sun. There's also a putting green and a high-season bar with verandah from which to watch the Devon sunset. There's plenty of room for running about and play games (if you’ve forgotten a football/cricket kit for evening games, ask at the site reception and they’ll see you sorted). A small play area is on site too, next to the indoor games room with air hockey, table football, table tennis and pool (another pool table, for adults only, is available in the bar). Smytham Holiday Park is a mile from the gardens at RHS Rosemoor and an accessible drive from the wilds of both Dartmoor and Exmoor. A day at the north Devon coast, including the beaches of Westward Ho!, Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay, is around nine to 15 miles from the site.

喜欢 We had a lovely stay here, the staff were very welcoming and helpful.
The pitches were a great size, all of the immunities were spotless, as soon as there was a sign of dirt it was cleaned immediately!
The park was great for the kids as well as lots of space for them to roam free.
There was also a Polish food truck that turned up and was a great option for dinner.

Lovely swimming pool
Games room a great idea for older children
Direct access to the Tarka Trail - we took our bikes but there is a bike hire on site
Reasonably priced shop and bar
Different Food vans during the evenings in high season were a nice option
Bike wash area and dog wash are perfect added extras

喜欢 Everything! The staff at the reception were really welcoming and check in was easy, the site was fabulous and extremely clean and tidy, the shower, toilets, swimming pool and laundrette room were all the cleanest that I’ve seen. The bar was lovely for a nice cold drink at the end of the day.Overall a fantastic place.

喜欢 Great clean site and welcoming staff. Well stocked shop and visiting food vendors. Easy to access local areas. Amazing for young children felt safe.

不喜欢 Noisy neighbours, playing loud music into early morning with LED lights flashing. This should have been dealt with by staff at the time, staff very relaxed about the situation. Was offered another pitch eventually but decided that the place wasn’t for us.

喜欢 The whole site is immaculate. The showers were hot and powerful. Staff were friendly and accommodating, especially the bar staff and drink prices were very reasonable. The dishwasher was a added luxury.
Pitches were of a good size and well spaced out.
We will definitely visit this campsite again if we return to North Devon.

不喜欢 The swimming pool being open an additional hour in the evening would have been good especially as the weather was hot during our stay.

喜欢 We really loved the setting and found the site to be very pretty and natural.
It’s just off the Tarka trail, and has lovely ponds and dog exercising area.
The facilities were great, there was a games room, shop, bar and the pool was very clean and warm. The showers were amazing and toulets wete kept very clean.
Every night a different food van came to the site and there was even a dog wash.
The family were very friendly and helpful, we will definitely be back!

The 180 miles of the Tarka Trail are accessible from Smytham Holiday Park, following the route of Tarka the otter from the Henry Williamson book. Elsewhere, hire a bike in nearby Great Torrington for the easy 11-mile pedal along the banks of the Torridge river to Bideford; if walking, head out straight from the site or catch a bus from Great Torrington to explore the four-mile trail from Weare Giffard. The area is a wildlife haven: the North Devon Biosphere was one of the first six UNESCO biosphere sites designated in the UK and covers an area from the heights of Dartmoor and Exmoor down via the sea to Lundy Island. Nature of a different sort can be seen at Bideford’s famed and decidedly individual The Big Sheep and one of dozens of days out in Devon suitable for the kids: take the family along also to the Milky Way Adventure Park, also in Bideford, or to the clay shooting and zorbing of Barnstaple’s Southdown Adventure Park. Plant fans should visit the 65 acres of RHS Rosemoor, a mile from the manor, and Hartland Abbey and Gardens at Bideford, a 12th-century abbey with restored woodland gardens.
