Trying to find a handy Cumbria stopover close to main roads or a useful base for a longer break spent exploring the southern part of the Lake District National Park? Either way, if you're a Caravan and Motorhome Club member, River Gilpin at Valley End Certificated Location would be a sound choice. This small site (for CAMC members only) is a quiet place with just a handful of well-kept and spacious gravel touring pitches, all of which have full services (electric, water and waste) as well as lovely scenic views. Shared facilities include wifi, an outdoor washing-up area and a smart toilet and shower block. Dogs and kids are welcome, and you'll have room to put your awning up to give you all a bit of extra space. Just inside the boundaries of the Lake District National Park, this is a semi-rural location with easy access from the A590 and A5074. The village of Levens is just over a mile away – but more importantly the local pub is pretty much next door (and it's a popular one too, with a menu of locally sourced food as well as a good range of drinks). With several walking trails in the area around Levens, this is a good base for exploring some of the local scenery; there are also a couple of historic houses very close by, or you can get to the shores of Windermere with a 15-minute drive.

喜欢 Absolutely immaculate site. Beautiful pitches in a lovely setting. Close to a nice pub with good food and beer. One of the best CLs I've stayed at.

The facilities were modern, clean and nicely finished.

喜欢 The owners were so helpful.
They went above and beyond to help us with a problem we had with our new tourer, nothing was too much trouble.
The pitches were beautiful, spacious, and well equipped
The toilet block is 5 *

喜欢 Flat pitches, very clean, views, pub just around the corner

不喜欢 We were given the wrong code to access the toilet/showers but someone from another pitch gave us the correct code
I think it would be nice to be allowed on the pitch before 3pm and allowed to leave later than 10am

喜欢 The location is a superb base for exploring the southern and western lakes. Handy for a large number of visits and excursions. Really well kept site. Clean and spacious shower rooms and toilets. Pub right next door.

喜欢 Absolute gem of a campsite, so clean and tidy. Very quiet and peaceful. Having the pub next door was an advantage , the staff where lovely and the food was good. Definitely will be returning a few times next year

不喜欢 Not really dislikes as this place was near perfection just a couple of little things that I would change and that's a tap at the chemical waste to swill the toilet out and rinse down after. Also the grey water disposal not being under the fresh water tap, these need to be separate but obviously these are my opinions and do not reflect the beauty of this campsite. The owners should be very proud of themselves as this campsite is lovely 😍

Downside right next to the road
Do not have a pint in the pub the coors was so watered down it must have been 90 percent water I have not had a drink for 2 years and just fancied a pint wish I hadn't bothered

喜欢 We liked the facilities very much and possibly the best we have encountered, perhaps a chair in there would be good .
Like the barrier access the site layout is very nice and premium with gorgeous views

不喜欢 Grey waste disposal a little awkward as you have to lift a heavy container, also no hose to rinse the toilet cassette.

It can be tricky to know where to start in the Lake District National Park, such is the excellent list of attractions. But perhaps a good bet is to explore locally first, taking a trip to Levens Hall (three minutes’ drive) to see the stunning Elizabethan mansion and the world’s oldest topiary gardens or visiting National Trust - Sizergh (five minutes) to see the artworks inside the medieval house. Pottering around in local towns is a good option too – maybe Kendal (15 minutes) for the castle and Blackhall Yard’s artisan shops, or Bowness-on-Windermere (20 minutes) for boat trips, watersports and The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (20 minutes). Cartmel (15 minutes) may also take your fancy – for the racecourse or some sweet treats in the home of sticky toffee pudding. Those of you with kids to entertain should also note that there are three great animal attractions about 10 minutes’ drive away: Lakeland Maze Farm Park, Lakeland Wildlife Oasis and Predator Experience (to walk with wolves) are all worth putting on your list.
