Let’s face it, if you’re off to the Lake District you’re likely to be looking for lots of chances to look at lakes. So put a big tick in that box for Irton House Farm, a peaceful place where watery views can be had without even leaving your pitch. And it’s not just any old lake that forms the backdrop here: you’ll be looking out over Bassenthwaite, one of the area’s largest and loveliest (and in a region of pretty stiff competition too). Being a farm site, you’ll share those views with the resident sheep and chickens, but around the sizeable site there's plenty of space to relax or to run about and play games. (Not outdoor-games weather? Retreat to the games room for pool and table tennis.) As scenic as that outlook is, you’ll not be wanting to limit yourself to just the one lake, so it’s handy that there are plenty more within easy reach. Buttermere, Derwentwater and Crummock Water are all within a half-hour drive, as is the Solway coast if you fancy a blast of sea air with your aquatic views. Getting out for a walk or a bike ride is pretty straightforward on local paths, and you can safely get all mucky knowing that a bike wash and free heated shower block await your return. Post-activity pubs and grub can be had five minutes away in Bassenthwaite or with a slightly longer drive to Cockermouth.

喜欢 I loved camping with the view. The facilities were good and clean and the family loved seeing a working farm.

不喜欢 Needs more toilet facilities, I am expecting at busy times there to be queues.

喜欢 Another great holiday camping at Irton House Farm. Requested a particular pitch and was grateful when owners were able to put us there when we arrived.
As usual toilet /shower facilities were immaculate and showers lovely and hot.
Love Irton House Farm as pitches in The Paddock are very large and have amazing views…could sit and look at them all day!
Will definitely be back next year and will remember to book up early as we weren’t quick enough to book our usual June holiday.

不喜欢 No dislikes re facilities etc. only down side was on our last night our new neighbours were chatting round their camp fire (with the other family they arrived with) until 12.30 am…so we were a little tired the next day.
Not sure if there is a quiet time but we were a bit fed up by midnight.

喜欢 The whole site was so well kept and clean, and it was lovely hanging out with the resident chickens and horses at camp.
Friendly and helpful staff too, the toilets were lovely and clean, probably the nicest I've seen on a campsite.
Also the views from the site were absolutely stunning, just a shame we weren't pitched on lower field to appreciate it more.

不喜欢 Pitches were too close together, could hear next doors conversation..also me and my husband found it too quiet for us on a night time, there wasn't a soul about at camp.

喜欢 The views from our pitch were incredible and we loved that we had our own fire pit which we toasted marshmallows on. We enjoyed playing ping pong and pool in the games room and the site was less than a 20 minute drive from Keswick.

It’s all about getting outdoors around here – there are walks galore through the area’s stunning scenery (not just lakes but also fells, forests and mountains). Routes are around for all abilities, from accessible ‘miles without stiles’ walks through to scrambles up Skiddaw (the 931-metre peak is 20 minutes’ drive from the farm). Put your boots aside for a while to favour other activities – head to Whinlatter Forest Park (20 minutes' drive) for mountain biking, Derwentwater (20 minutes) for kayaking and trout fishing, or Cockermouth Golf Club (10 minutes) for a round or two. If you’ve got the kids with you, you may like to take a trip to the Lake District Wildlife Park; if not, a dram at the Lakes Distillery or a tour of Jennings Castle Brewery may be on the cards. And of course it’s always worth making a point of visiting the Derwent Pencil Museum, 15 minutes away in Keswick.
