Whether you're looking to get a toehold on craggy rock faces or fancy a taste of slow-paced village life, you can't go far wrong with a stay at this fab Peak District park. Head to Newfold Farm Campsite for hols full of hikes, cycles and hilly explores – the start of the long-distance Pennine Way is a few steps from the site entrance, with many other top rural spots a short drive away. Newbies seeking tips on what to get up to in the local area will be in good hands here – this family-run site is owned and operated by born-and-bred Edale folk who are more than happy to share their wisdom. The community-minded village is also home to a volunteer-run visitor centre, an independent café, a pizzeria and a lovely local pub. A railway station is less than half a mile away from base, so leaving the car at home is definitely an option for those heading here. Not that driving is an unpleasant business in this part of the world – on the road you'll pass by oodles of historic villages, valley views and grand country houses, including spectacular Chatsworth House… Dogs are welcome to join you at Newfold Farm Campsite; barbecues and bonfires are also allowed.

喜欢 It's definitely a well run campsite with a great cafe onsite and pizzas as well as a store for essentials around the corner.
We liked the vicinity to the pubs, starts of walks and the train station.

不喜欢 The camping field we stayed in was on a slope.

喜欢 The amazing scenery around the site. Being in the village so easy walking access to the little shop, pubs, bus stop and train station. Being able to walk from the site right into the peaks.

不喜欢 Would have been good to have a phone number on the site details. We had a power cut and didn’t realise for a while that the whole village was out.
There was no hot water in the showers one morning!

喜欢 Views, cafe, locality, weather was in our favour, pitch was fab- all staff so friendly

不喜欢 Only had a slight issue that I am sure was quickly rectified… new showers were stone cold but sinks were fine with hot water… we let someone know

喜欢 The views, the cafe, the pizzas and the general store being on site. The new amenities block was lovely. The staff were very helpful.

不喜欢 The size of the pitch, when our neighbours put up their drive away awning it was very close to our motorhome. The old amenities block needs some TLC, no locks on some toilets. Not so keen on the communal shower area in the new block but just used the showers in old block.

喜欢 Setting, cafe shop pitch. Lovely staff.

不喜欢 The main shower block nearest the cafe. Needs alot of work.we used the newer facilities once but then the showers were cold. It is a little.pricey though for a campervan hard pitch with elec at £42a.night

喜欢 A fantastic site with great facilities. The staff were so friendly and the cafe/shop are both brilliant. The toilets/showers were great, and the site didn’t seem too busy.

喜欢 Good stay. Nice staff who were very accommodating. Gorgeous views. Pizza was amazing.

不喜欢 The noise curfew is not monitored as it said it would be. The bell tent next to us were so loud and disrespectful until midnight and kept waking up the children.

Draw a straight line from this well-placed site and you're bound to come across something that tickles your fancy. Heading west? Stop off for strolls at Ladybower Reservoir (25 minutes' drive). South? Buxton's fancy shops and theatres are on hand, as are the gorgeous grounds of Chatsworth House (40 minutes). Up for some underground explores? This site is a breezy 15-minute drive from Castleton, a village deep in the White Peak where there are caves and caverns aplenty. Bobbing up and down along underground watercourses is on the cards at Speedwell Cavern, where subterranean boat trips are up for grabs. The nearby Blue John Cavern, meanwhile, also has much to marvel at, including Waterfall Cavern and its shimmering multi-coloured dome… When you emerge bleary-eyed back into broad daylight, you’ll probably be struck by the shadow of mighty Mam Tor (10 minutes from base). Hike up this handsome hill for a three-mile circular trail that'll stretch your legs and open your eyes to some exceptional vistas – on sunny days you'll also likely have the bonus sight of daredevil paragliders circling and swooping overhead.
