De Lente van Drenthe

The Drenthe province is the best known in the Netherlands for its cycling options and hundreds of kilometres of trails through towns and villages, canals, forest and heath. If you’re after more kid-friendly ways to see the surrounds, head to Outdoor Center Boomkroonpad (four kilometres away) for a woodland playground, a viewing tower and a trail through the treetops. It's only a few kilometres from the site to the Drouwenerzand amusement park and its rides, rollercoasters, trampolines and loads of indoor play. Options a little further away include the Joytime climbing park (nine kilometres), meeting the beasts at Wildlands adventure zoo (26 kilometres) and speedy days at the Assen TT Circuit (30 kilometres). For something a little more laidback, head for the history-themed activities at the Hunebedden Centrum in Borger (nine kilometres) or remind the kids of the need for good behaviour at the National Prison Museum (40 kilometres).
