Whether you're planning days of outdoor pursuits or scenic steam railway rides, your holiday in Mid Wales should be off to a flying start at Henllan Caravan Park… This family-friendly site first opened in the 1960s, and it has grown into a very gorgeous spot to set down on the banks of the Banwy river, with fishing available in the river and a play area set up for those guests who have brought the whole family along. Another highlight is that there's a pub just 500 metres from the pitching field; call in to see what food and entertainment they have planned (it varies throughout the season). There’s a golf course 10 minutes’ drive away for any keen golfers and the surrounding Powys landscape has many opportunities for things like mountain biking, swimming, climbing and hiking for all the adventurous types. Shops and that sort of thing can be tracked down in Welshpool, 10 minutes’ drive away. This historic town has some gorgeous Georgian buildings and the Montgomery Canal for a peaceful stroll or you could look in on the National Trust’s Powis Castle and Garden (20 minutes) while you’re around there. For more nostalgic activities, the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway is five minutes’ drive from the site. Back at your riverside site, there’s a shower block ready for you to freshen up. The pitches themselves are all well-maintained and flat with great views, so your stay should be both comfortable and scenic. Please note that the facilities block is approximately 300 yards from the main pitching area.

Tyckte om A really lovely site close to the town. The site has really nice amenities, the toilets were spotless at all times! They are a bit of a walk from the camping pitch but it really wasn’t a problem for us. The dog park was ideal and the children’s park was very loved by our children in our party. The man looking after the site was really welcoming too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will 100% be returning.

Tyckte inte om My only criticism is the park isn’t very young child friendly and I think could benefit from some smaller apparatus for toddlers. The stairs up to the slide did worry me as it really isn’t young child friendly and did feel slightly dangerous. However, my daughter loved being in the park with her cousins

Tyckte om Everything- location is beautiful. Really clean site. Reception man was very helpful. Great area for the dogs to run around off lead. Toilets/shower clean.

Tyckte om Beautiful flat field for camping, the sound of the river. The fun my children had playing in the river, and on their paddleboard with the dog. Real suntrap.

Tyckte om Spacious park with lovely river to access which helped on hot days. Play area for the kids which was really good. Dog park was a bonus and kept our dog entertained.

Tyckte inte om Walk to facilities were too far for young children. Only 2 toilets and 1 shower was not enough especially in a heatwave.

No curfew of noise. Some parties until 1am with little kids was not fun.

Lovely to have the river for kids to play in.
Having a separate dog exercise field was really handy.
Great choice of grass pitches if looking for non-electric. The electric pitches are all close to the play park so a bit less spread out, but there are no marked pitches.

Tyckte inte om It was unfortunate that when we stayed there was a very large group of about 7 tents who were not respectful of the campsite and left the bathroom and play park in a mess every day.
The toilets are very far away, so most people drove there but if you are in a campervan this is not so easy. More toilets and showers would also be helpful.

Tyckte om ✅ Absolutely fantastic and peaceful place for camping. The site is very clean, and the wardens were extremely friendly and helpful. The Afon River behind the pitches is lovely for swimming, both for adults and children. There is plenty of space to play, and there are children's playgrounds on site. I would definitely recommend staying here as it is very peaceful.

The only downside is that the toilets are quite far away, about a 10-minute walk, and there is only one shower, so sometimes you have to wait to use the shower or bathroom. Also, an odour treatment is used in the drinking water, which changes the taste of the water.

With Eryri/Snowdonia National Park to the west and the Shropshire Hills National Landscape to the south-east, there’s a lot of hiking accessible from this site. You could set your compass towards Lake Vyrnwy (35 minutes' drive), just outside of Snowdonia, for a day of lakeside walks, watersports and cycling followed by a cream tea – or perhaps head up towards Pistyll Rhaeadr (45 minutes) for a four-mile hike with a reward in the form of a spectacular waterfall. Add some historical elements to your holiday in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape. The Mitchell's Fold Stone Circle (35 minutes) still stands from the Bronze Age and the moorlands of the surrounding Stapeley Hill make for another splendid walk. Then there are the Stiperstones (45 minutes), a cool ridge that's made up of rocks that are hundreds of millions of years old – another place for a good long wander. When you’re ready to muck into the rural way of life, head to Park Hall The Countryside Experience (40 minutes), a farm with play areas that has opened its doors for families to get involved in animal activities like meeting the alpacas or watching the pig racing.
