Set on a Somerset break? It's a crafty move to grab a spot at The Den and Orchard, a family-friendly site on the edge of Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It just so happens that there are plenty of walks nearby, as well as other days out in the local area including fishing, mountain biking, visits to National Trust properties and the excellent Longleat Safari Park. Firepits are positioned on every pitch for a laidback evening of cooking and flame gazing. The appointed chef can acquire essentials at the supermarkets in Frome, three miles away. If you'd rather let someone else do the honours, it's possible to order local food delivery from your phone or take a short five-minute drive to local food outlets. Facilities on site include a washing-up area and a wooden toilet block with gents’ and ladies’ toilets and showers. A games room (with darts, table football and table tennis) is on hand too, for damp evenings and general entertainment. Being just under half a mile from an A road, you may hear some road noise at rush hour or if the wind is blowing in the site's direction. Just outside of Frome, it's a bit noisier here than at a fully rural site, but it's very handy for getting around and also for ordering from takeaways in Frome or quickly picking up supplies in town.

Tyckte inte om Pitches very tight and close to each other. Had everything you would want but not where you would want to stay for a long time. Traffic noise. No staff on site.

Tyckte om Loved how tidy the site was and all the little extras, such as the play area for kids, the fact there was hand towels to use in the family washrooms/toilets. To even washing up liquid and a communal fridge!

Tyckte inte om There nothing we disliked, other than qhite a few wasps around when we bad food out almost like there was a nest in the trees alongside but strong possibility its just wasp seasons!!! And there was nothing to be done :D

Tyckte om The check-in/check out was so easy- just using a code to enter and leave.
the site was clean and tidy. The showers were lovely and hot and there was plenty of room to change without getting feet wet etc.
the shepherds hut was well maintained with all necessary equipment for cooking and washing up.
The sitting area was lovely and due to the weather being pleasant we were able to sit outside.

Tyckte inte om The shower trays were too shallow so the water overflowed. The shower plugs needed to be cleaned to allow the water to drain better, as appeared to have been clogged with hair.

Tyckte om Location, size, and layout of campsite. Although the facilities are wooden shacks - they are functional.

Tyckte inte om Lack of staff - no staff were on location for the duration of our stay - another camper told us what we needed to know. The reception buzzer wasn’t answered on our arrival. Very narrow bays were even small motorhome struggled to park - this would be more of an issue at busier times

Tyckte om This site is a credit to the owners, it was immaculate and the grass was well kept, as were the facilities,
The shower rooms were very clean and tidy, the water was always hot, and the pot wash area came complete with a few personal touches, washing up liquid, T towels and sponges all supplied.
The site is only about 1hrs from many of the areas sites and attractions.
The site is also enclosed with its own gate key pad for added security.

If you’d like your walks to take in pretty gardens and historic buildings, head to Nunney Castle (five minutes’ drive), The Walled Garden at Mells (10 minutes) or Stourhead National Trust property (15 minutes). Bath’s half an hour away for urban strolls with a Roman tinge, and fishing is 15 minutes away at Shearwater Lake for those who need a bit of a rest. You’ll easily fill a day over at Longleat (15 minutes away), driving the safari trails, visiting all the different animal areas, touring the house and pottering through the pleasure gardens.
