The owners of Low Hollows reckon they’ve got one of the most stunning locations in the Lake District… and it’s easy to see why they love it. This Cumbria pop-up site is in the foothills of Blencathra, so it’s a scenic place, and it’s easy to get to as well – it's just a little way off the A66. That handy position means that it’s easy to get to the village of Threlkeld, a mile away, for two excellent pubs and a coffee shop – or continue on to the bigger market town of Keswick, less than 10 minutes’ drive away. The Keswick to Penrith bus route stops in the village too, so you can get out and about easily without taking the car. And where might your outings take you? Well, it’s all about the open air around here: climbing, horse riding, canoeing and shooting are all within five miles, and there’s a golf course less than a mile away. Cyclists can head out on the C2C (Coast to Coast) route from the village, while walkers take strolls along the Keswick to Threlkeld railway line path. More intrepid types can tick off several Lakeland fells nearby, including Skiddaw and Helvellyn as well as Blencathra. Sounds rather like you’ll need time to chill out back on site – and handily there’s plenty of space for that, plus a stream for soothing tired feet. Barbecues are permitted on the pitches, and you’re welcome to bring dogs and kids (there’s a whole lot of field for them to scamper about in). Facilities are on the low-key side, with just showers and toilets (two of each for the ladies and gents) and a washing-up area.

Tyckte om Pleasant site with two camping fields. Unfortunately for us we had a weather warning for rain so it was a very wet stay. The good news was that the upper field drained extremely well, the slight slope probably helped, so no mud or squelching encountered. Very basic amenities but I'd go again hopefully in better weather!

Tyckte om Very peaceful, the toilets were clean and the showers very hot and powerful. Liked that there were fit pits available. Loved that there was a contact number for a reliable taxi to take us into the keswick for the night.

Tyckte inte om All the fields are quite sloped but you don’t notice much once the tent is up. Would’ve liked a shower curtain or deeper shower tray to keep the water in a bit more.

Showers were nice and hot.

Tyckte inte om Nobody there on arrival.
Called 3 different numbers and emailed but got no response had been trying for 2-3 days leading up to the visit.


Showers/loos/ washing up station were left to get dirty and not regularly attended. Nobody on site to deal with theses issues

I love it here, it's a nice quite site.

Tyckte om The views were great and the birds in the barn filled me with joy ❤️ Great base for accessing lots of amazing places.

Tyckte inte om Bit of a challenge with the number of toilets/showers. Luckily it wasn't too busy so didn't have to wait that long. In some ways it's amazing cos it's near the main road, but the car noise can be a bit imposing.

So, you’ve just arrived, and the kids (or big kids) in your group are raring and ready for adventures. Handily, as well as all the footpaths such as Skiddaw trails (10 minutes’ drive), Catbells trails (15 minutes) and the Helvellyn trails (10 minutes), Keswick (10 minutes) has boat hire, the Kong Adventure Centre with climbing walls, caving activities and outdoor excursions or the Puzzling Place for the ultimate optical illusion. In Whinlatter Forest Park (15 minutes), mountain biking and cycling may be on the cards, or Segwaying, Go Ape and guided alpaca treks… at Aira Force waterfall and Ullswater (15 minutes), there's a gorgeous waterfall trail… while at The Lakes Distillery (20 minutes), on the menu are whisky tours and tastings. If it’s history you’re after, head to the Castlerigg Stone Circle (10 minutes), a historic circle with spectacular views of fells, or the Grade I-listed Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens (15 minutes). After all that, there’s always lots of animals to spot at the Lake District Wildlife Park (20 minutes).
