The owners of Low Hollows reckon they’ve got one of the most stunning locations in the Lake District… and it’s easy to see why they love it. This Cumbria pop-up site is in the foothills of Blencathra, so it’s a scenic place, and it’s easy to get to as well – it's just a little way off the A66. That handy position means that it’s easy to get to the village of Threlkeld, a mile away, for two excellent pubs and a coffee shop – or continue on to the bigger market town of Keswick, less than 10 minutes’ drive away. The Keswick to Penrith bus route stops in the village too, so you can get out and about easily without taking the car. And where might your outings take you? Well, it’s all about the open air around here: climbing, horse riding, canoeing and shooting are all within five miles, and there’s a golf course less than a mile away. Cyclists can head out on the C2C (Coast to Coast) route from the village, while walkers take strolls along the Keswick to Threlkeld railway line path. More intrepid types can tick off several Lakeland fells nearby, including Skiddaw and Helvellyn as well as Blencathra. Sounds rather like you’ll need time to chill out back on site – and handily there’s plenty of space for that, plus a stream for soothing tired feet. Barbecues are permitted on the pitches, and you’re welcome to bring dogs and kids (there’s a whole lot of field for them to scamper about in). Facilities are on the low-key side, with just showers and toilets (two of each for the ladies and gents) and a washing-up area.

喜欢 Beautiful location, breath taking view, close distance to Keswick centre
Showers were nice and hot.

不喜欢 Nobody there on arrival.
Called 3 different numbers and emailed but got no response had been trying for 2-3 days leading up to the visit.


Showers/loos/ washing up station were left to get dirty and not regularly attended. Nobody on site to deal with theses issues

不喜欢 Not enough showers and toilets for the size of the campsite, a lack of a dry clean area within the shower units.

喜欢 The views were great and the birds in the barn filled me with joy ❤️ Great base for accessing lots of amazing places.

不喜欢 Bit of a challenge with the number of toilets/showers. Luckily it wasn't too busy so didn't have to wait that long. In some ways it's amazing cos it's near the main road, but the car noise can be a bit imposing.

喜欢 The campsite is very well situated just a 10 min drive to Keswick with all the supermarkets/restaurants you might want and there is a pub in the village of Threlkeld with bus connections to Penrith and Keswick. The toilet and washing facilities were clean and well stocked with toilet roll, washing up liquid and sponges and the showers have very good water pressure. Beautiful views! You can leave the campsite and walk the start of several routes up Blencathra.

不喜欢 The bin/recycling facilities could be improved as when we visited there was a truck parked outside the toilet facilities that everyone throws their garbage into. There are only 4 showers for the campsite so had to wait a long time on a couple days to shower.

喜欢 This was our 2nd time here. We decided to return as we liked the location and facilities.

不喜欢 There seems to be no noise cut off restrictions. Other people playing loud music well after 1am. Also people smoking weed which isn’t ideal when you’ve got kids.

喜欢 Good location, very close to Keswick and lots of nice walks. Nearly all of the pitches are on a hill but this didn’t really bother us. Toilets, showers and washing up station were all clean.

不喜欢 There were grass cuttings all over the field which meant grass got in the tent/car/toilets/showers/etc.
We went over the bank holiday weekend which was a bit of a mistake because it was so busy and the others on the campsite were shouting and playing music until midnight and smoking weed. I would say it’s not family friendly but we may have just been unlucky that weekend.
It was quite difficult getting out of the driveway as it’s on a busy road.

So, you’ve just arrived, and the kids (or big kids) in your group are raring and ready for adventures. Handily, as well as all the footpaths such as Skiddaw trails (10 minutes’ drive), Catbells trails (15 minutes) and the Helvellyn trails (10 minutes), Keswick (10 minutes) has boat hire, the Kong Adventure Centre with climbing walls, caving activities and outdoor excursions or the Puzzling Place for the ultimate optical illusion. In Whinlatter Forest Park (15 minutes), mountain biking and cycling may be on the cards, or Segwaying, Go Ape and guided alpaca treks… at Aira Force waterfall and Ullswater (15 minutes), there's a gorgeous waterfall trail… while at The Lakes Distillery (20 minutes), on the menu are whisky tours and tastings. If it’s history you’re after, head to the Castlerigg Stone Circle (10 minutes), a historic circle with spectacular views of fells, or the Grade I-listed Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens (15 minutes). After all that, there’s always lots of animals to spot at the Lake District Wildlife Park (20 minutes).
