Skip to see – and stay at – this holiday park on the sandy East Yorkshire coast: it's likely you’ll love it. Skipsea Sands Holiday Park is in a scenic countryside and village setting near Driffield, but is only a couple of miles from the stretch of Yorkshire coastline between Flamborough Head to Spurn Point – with Bridlington in between – and within easy driving distance of several sandy beaches. It has its own fishing lake and lots of activities and entertainment to float any individual boat. Guests can be occupied day and night should they so wish: kids can work off energy at the adventure playground, chase a shuttlecock/football or rollerblade around the massive sports hall, before cooling off at the waterjets of the indoor pool, or going along to one of the many organised activities for all ages such as dance, football, water games and a club for the under-fives. There’s a small charge to use the sports hall and for a couple of other activities like ten-pin bowling and the intriguingly named aqua jets, but all other activities are free. Elsewhere on site, bigger guests have access to the well-equipped park gym, while all ages can pile into the Pavilion family clubhouse for drinks and snacks; there are two other bars on site, as well as The Sands diner with restaurant and takeaway. Evenings are properly covered with a range of glitzy entertainment from live music to family shows. Prefer to breeze gently through your hols rather than get involved in too much activity? A Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are on site to bubble placidly at too, all included in your pitch fee.

Gostou: The site was clean and tidy , love hardstanding pitches , really liked the dog walk and facilities for getting rid of dog bags , lovely phone call from them a couple of days before we were due to go just to warn us that it was a little wet and we may like to make sure we have boots/wellies , but it wasn't that bad .

Não gostou: Wow!!! The toilet/shower facilities , we arrived on the Friday afternoon toilets were dirty , no toilet roll in 2 out of 4 toilets , only 2 of the toilet doors actually closed and locked and 1 toilet seat was broken , went into toilets sat still the same dirt all over sinks and floors and still no loo roll , Sunday we saw a cleaning company van outside toilets so thought they would of been cleaned WRONG still no loo roll , this is before I get started on the showers and absolutely no hot water , and no heating in the pool either , apparently they don't turn boiler on this early in the season , no signal for WiFi .

Gostou: The way the pitches were sectioned off. Your own water and electric point

Não gostou: NO HOT WATER AT ALL IN OUR THREE DAY STAY!!!!! FACILITIES NOT MAINTAINED, FILTHY. THE FACT THERE WOULD BE A CONSTANT AROMA OF CANNABIS DUE TO A TENT WITH 6 MALES AND 1 FEMALE IN THE CENTRE OF A FAMILY AREA

Gostou: Spacious pitches on a well-maintained site. On-site facilities looked good, but it was out of season whilst I was there. Very close to the sea!

Não gostou: No hot water in the washroom block nearest me, although the other block (further away) was OK. Again, early in the season though, so can't complain.

Gostou: The size of the pitches are great, they have an edge around the pitch for added privacy. Staff really helpful, plenty for the kids to do well maintained site

Não gostou: 10am checkout is a bit of a cheek when you can't get on your pitch until 4pm what they need 6 hours for is beyond me Zero phone signal EE no WiFi available (some will see this as a positive)

Gostou: Facilities- pool, sauna, laundromat, shop.

Não gostou: Confusion getting our allocated pitch, a lack of management for the touring/tent site apparent. Lots of rubbish off site left for the duration of our 6 day stay. No access to the beach which is 100 yards away due to coastal erosion and no action taken to allow access so far required. No wifi on touring site despite advertised.

Gostou: Staff were nice and kids enjoyed the park

Não gostou: Cold showers, one of the toilet blocks only had one light the other only had one toilet that had both a lockable door and a working toilet seat. No dog friendly indoor areas or covered heating areas. Litter everywhere. Bag of dirty nappies next to our pitch for our whole stay and dog mess that had not been picked up. Dog walking area was cover in dog mess. Need more effort put into all weather pitch's. Nothing to do in walking distance. Mobile signal shocking

Gostou: The park was great for the kids, facilities clean as usual and never too far. Nice atmosphere around the park and reception staff really friendly.

Não gostou: Problems with swimming pool during our visit, didn't get to use it at all and found the staff on the pool desk not very helpful.

Gostou: The park, facilities, etc. the reception staff are absolutely lovely and very helpful. Swimming was already full when we booked but they release extra spots daily which is a great idea!

Não gostou: We were only able to book activities on the app for the day we arrived, the second day just didn't show up as an option. The showbar does not have enough space for all the families when the park is full. There were at least 6 other families (as well as us) that simply could not get seats. We had to miss out and go back to our accommodation. This is the reason for our poor value for money rating.

The East and North Yorkshire coast is most visitors’ first stop, from the gannets gabbing at Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs to the seaside shenanigans and surfing of Scarborough. If it’s raining, take the kids to Terror Tower: its three floors’ worthy of grisly special effects should silence even the most horrifying sprog. Flit to fab Filey for five miles of beach, its funfair and the start of the Cleveland Way, and nearby Bridlington for the Bird of Prey and Animal Park and Bondville Model Village. Further along the coast, Goths and others love lovely Whitby; have fish and chips at the Magpie café after an afternoon seeing Whitby Abbey and the replica of HMS Endeavour. Inland yields loads to do too, with the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Park both within driving distance; as it’s Yorkshire, you’ll find stately pads, historic houses and museums of all bents easily accessible too. A good option for a city day trip is lovely York, about an hour’s drive away.
