Alderford Lake

Gostou Lovely location Lovely staff and Cafe and showers were clean. Great to have the lake and other activities to hand too.

Não gostou Codes for padlocks were different to those we were sent in the email. Only one tent had a padlock and was open and clearly had not been cleaned, we had to empty out rubbish. Toilets absolutely smelt awful though appeared to be clean.

Não gostou The tents were great though one was not cleaned and we cleared some rubbish in one. Also codes had all changed so couldn’t get in the tent had to ring for codes and one tent did not have a padlock.Also the toilets just smelt awful though they were clean and showers were clean.

Gostou Manager and all staff were so helpful when our van broke down when pitched up, they went above and beyond to help us. Breakfast was great each morning and atmosphere in the cafe was great

Gostou Staff are friendly and polite, cafe was nice and clean.

Pitching up was easy.

Paddle boarding was very fun.

Gostou Having stayed on the opening weekend for camping when the site had to issue an apology for the state of things I could see that huge steps to improve had been taken since then. Lots more sinks and handwashing/washing up areas and the toilets were clean, well provisioned - even having a selection of emergency toiletries for sale!

Não gostou Having booked via pitch up I didn’t receive any separate confirmation from Alderford about camping hence no arrival instructions were provided. The site was very busy as staff were preparing for a triathlon the next day. After waiting a while at an empty reception desk I found some staff at the bar - but when I enquired about check in/getting a pitch assigned staff were clearly preoccupied - asking me “what was it I wanted to know about the camping again?” I was just after basic info - acknowledgement of my arrival, pointed where to go and instruction on whether there were pitches assigned or just pitch anywhere. But this seemed to be unexpected. And I felt like a bother to be honest. Other than this I had no further dealing with staff but the stay was pleasant and fellow campers who were mostly families or triathletes were well behaved and friendly.

We are disappointed that your arrival was not handled as clearly or warmly as it should have been. Although the team were preparing for the following day’s triathlon, you should still have received a proper welcome and straightforward directions to the camping field. We will review both the arrival information sent through Pitchup and our check-in process to ensure this is clearer for future guests.

Gostou We visited the campsite to take part in the children's and adults' triathlon over the weekend. The location was absolutely perfect and ideally situated for the event. The bell tents were comfortable. The sanitary facilities and showers were clean, well maintained, and in excellent condition. We had a great stay and would happily return.

Não gostou The only downside was the noise from the main road behind the campsite. There was quite a lot of lorry traffic during the night, and as it's an A-road, it could be quite noisy at times. Other than that, everything was excellent.

Gostou If I could give it a 0 I would! Future campers please read my review as Alderford Lake have advertised their camping facilities in a very misleading way!

Alderford Lake website portrays an image of camping in a quiet area with a lakeside experience.

Não gostou This is untrue. The camping field sits alongside a very busy A road. The road noise did not quieten overnight. HGVs were bustling along the road continuosly through the night and did not make for a "quiet" night's sleep. We did not sleep.

Check in is at 2pm. Be aware future campers that the lakeside experience that is sold to you is only accessible for about an hour or so after you arrive. The site and all it's facilities including access to the children's park and food completely shuts down at 4.30. There is nothing and no facilities available after this time. No lakeside experience, no play park, no sunset paddle as quoted on their booking page.

The shower facilities are less than basic. And I struggled to find a shower that locked.

I raised my concerns to Alderford. No apology was given. Instead I was completely dismissed.

As an experienced camper I was really shocked and appalled by the lack of information provided at booking, the misleading information to campers on pitch up and their own website for overnight guests. I was also shocked of the lack of customer care.

Do not book!

Although bell tent check-in is from 2pm, guests are welcome to arrive from 9am and enjoy the site throughout our published opening hours of 9am to 4.30pm. Guests can also use the site from 9am until 4.30pm on the day of departure, so access is not limited to the period following check-in.

Alderford is a daytime visitor attraction with overnight camping accommodation, rather than a holiday park operating its attractions throughout the evening. The camping area and its essential facilities remain accessible overnight, but the lake, play area and visitor facilities close at 4.30pm. Unsupervised lake access cannot be permitted outside designated sessions due to serious health and safety considerations and the requirements of our insurance.

Alderford is located near a public main road, and traffic levels can vary. The location of the camping field is shown within our booking information, although we recognise that individual experiences of road noise will differ.

Following your complaint, we inspected the shower locks and the padlock provided for your bell tent. All were found to be working correctly, and we have not received similar complaints from other guests. Had either issue been reported during your stay, our team would have been available to assist.

Your complaint was reviewed by two members of our management team. Although we did not agree that the circumstances warranted a full refund, your concerns were investigated and responded to fully.
