To some it’s famed for its historic steam trains and slate caverns; to others it’s a buzzing hive of outdoorsy activities. But whatever brings you to Blaenau Ffestiniog, it's a good bet to bag a berth at Quarry View Touring Park. This quiet touring park has been set up with life’s essentials in mind: a picnic area provides a place for open-air eats, and there’s a washing-up area, chemical disposal point and a waste area with recycling bins. Likewise, the shower blocks have been thoughtfully kitted out: benches and hooks save your clobber from damp patches and shaver points and a hairdryer will keep you looking dapper. And although there's no wifi on site, the presence of three mobile phone masts nearby means that most guests should be able to access 4G services. Any amenities that aren’t on site are most likely available nearby: it takes 10 minutes or so to walk into town for shops, a cinema, pubs and takeaways or to board a train from the station (regular services run from here to Llandudno and Betws-y-Coed as well as the heritage line to Porthmadog). Also within walking distance are the adrenaline activities at Zip World Llechwedd, including the Titan zipwire and Bounce Below, both set up in repurposed slate caverns. Looking to explore further afield? An excellent idea – this nifty location is under half an hour’s drive from Portmeirion, Harlech Castle and Snowdonia National Park.

Gostou An amazing small touring site, facilities one of the best we have used, modern, and proper hot showers 😁. The pitches are laid out well, and the surrounding scenery and walks are stunning. No problem regarding no WiFi, the 4g reception very good.

Gostou We turned up late to the park due to mix of bad weather and traffic , over an hour late but Janet waited for us in the pouring rain to show us to our plot . The rain never stopped all night then Saturday morning woke up to even more rain and the forecast was even more rain so we decided to pack up and head home . Plot was excellent, amenities were very clean , nipped out Friday night into festiniog for a takeaway Only 10 mins away

Não gostou Only thing I can say getting into the site was a touch tight with havin a big touring caravan and no TV signal as surrounded by slate mountains 😩

Gostou Such a cute little site. I really liked how the pitches were separated by shrubs and planting . The pitches were fabulously maintained and a great size. The shower and toilet block was absolutely lovely and so good to have constant and very warm running water in the shower itself. I also loved how the local l radio was always playing , I felt I had company for the 3am visits !! Janet is such a warm and welcoming lady and it’s clear she cares about her little site. The location is great for Zipworld (when you get the right one unlike myself !!) and very walkable . I’m led to believe there are beautiful walks nearby too but I had absolutely awful weather so didn’t get chance to really explore. As others have said no WiFi but I found my mobile signal good enough .

Gostou Very welcoming site, Janet was there to meet us on arrival. We stayed 2 nights our pitched was fab, on gravel which helped as we had quite a bit of rain. The facilities were great, very clean, washing up area was good, bowl and drainer provided. Lots of local information on the boards in the wash up area, good value for money. Although no Wifi, good reception always had 4G, still able to watch TV. Local Chinese was good also.

Even if you’re not much of a train buff, it’s worth taking a trip on the Ffestiniog Railway – the steam-powered services take in some of Snowdonia’s most spectacular scenery as they wend their way down to the coast at Porthmadog. If you’ve got an appetite for more, connect here for the Welsh Highland Railway all the way up to Caernarfon. If you’d like to explore under your own steam, there are heaps of hikes in the surrounding Snowdonia National Park – Snowdon itself is just a few miles away, or you may prefer a quieter clamber up Crimpiau from Capel Curig or a circuit of Llyn Idwal from Ogwen Cottage for something a bit less leg-busting (both routes about half an hour's drive). The site is also a few minutes’ amble from the Antur Stiniog mountain bike trails, with an uplift service that’s been tipped as the country’s best. Not enough adrenaline yet? The site is also a 10-minute stroll from Titan ZipWorld (to fly along two kilometres of zipline) and the underground adventure park in an old slate cavern at Bounce Below. Calm that heart rate a little by heading coastwards for a trip to pretty Portmeirion or a wander around the castle and beach in Harlech – both are about half an hour away by car.
