Feel rural and regal in the village of Regil at quiet, well-maintained and very green Walnut Tree Farm, a small Somerset farm site roughly half an hour's drive from the fab cities of Bristol and Bath. There's a right royal amount of space here, and you can lay claim to as much of it as you wish, as there are no restrictions on pitch size here. Select your spot (by the stream, perhaps, or looking out over the neighbouring fields) and make yourselves at home with whatever outdoor furniture, paddling pools and barbecue kit you need for a comfy stay. Feel free to create a campfire corner too – there's firewood available to buy by the barrowload to help you build up a good blaze. Close to the pitches is a collection of excellent eco-friendly facilities, including clean compost toilets and hot showers. Quiet time (10pm-8am) by night is requested across the site to ensure all guests can benefit from a good dose of rural peace to aid their dozing.

Gostou The site was clean, spacious and quiet. Mike the owner was friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. On arrival he walked us around the site and helped us to choose the best location for us based on our needs. There are chickens to visit and fresh eggs when available. There is fridge, and separate freezer available to use in the yard and a phone charging point in the toilet black.
Both the showers and compost toilets were very clean with fresh flowers placed in the toilets each day.
There were plenty of fire pits, seating and tables for campers to use.
The site is surrounded by farmland and countryside so we saw sheep, cows, rabbits, swallows, buzzards and much more.

Não gostou Some parts of the site are not particularly flat which was challenging at times. But it add to the fun.
Yes the roads leading to the site are tight, (as others have highlighted) but that is to be expected given its location.

Gostou I liked it that you didn’t actually have to have a pitch you can park anywhere. There was two fields one had families on it and we were put in the other field. A very quiet field asked to be close to the toilet which we were wouldn’t say the best toilet But it was a toilet nonetheless
There are no facilities on this site apart from water and across the road in the other campsite were showers which we didn’t use
The grounds were lovely and the walks even better the host or owner Mr. Mike was very helpful checking we were okay.

Não gostou The country Lane heading towards the campsite isn’t great for camper vans or caravans very narrow. We had to reverse when we came across a van and a trailer resulting in a small dent in the side of our van courtesy of the hedge.
No Wi-Fi or Internet, but we were on holiday so that was a good thing

Gostou Location - a beautiful, peaceful area where you can really switch off. But also the perfect distance from all amenities and the centre of Bristol.
The host - Mike was very welcoming and lovely to talk to.
The Shepherds Hut itself - clean, comfortable and decorated wonderfully.

Gostou Warm welcome, very clean, quiet off grid site.
Thanks for letting us stay and for the gifts of being able to feed the cows, eggs and plums. We throughly enjoyed our short stay and will return for longer next time

Gostou Beautiful area with cows in the opposite field. The toilets are very clean for compost toilets. All kept up very well and Wood cost is very cheap.
Overall I would recommend to others.

Não gostou The field isn’t flat, luckily it was quite so I pitched on a flat bit but if it’s busy you might you find it difficult.

Looking over the Mendip Hills, it would seem that these limestone beauties would be an apt place to start your explorations from Walnut Tree Farm… it’s easy to see why this is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As well as prehistoric Cheddar Gorge, half an hour’s drive from the site, there’s a Victorian fort at Brean Down (about an hour’s drive west), and an Iron Age hill fort (about 40 minutes south) at Brent Knoll, to hook every kind of history buff. While you’re doing the historical rounds, go Gothic at the National Trust’s Tyntesfield, a turreted and stone-carved mansion 10 miles north of Walnut Tree Farm. You'll be able to smell a good tale here – the house was once owned by one of the country’s wealthiest commoners, who managed to get himself rather stinking rich thanks to fertiliser. (It’ll all make scents if you pay a visit and nose out more.) Step onto the Monarch’s Way footpath to follow the escape route from the Battle of Worcester said to have been taken by the future Charles II back in 1651; running from Worcester to Bristol and down to Brighton, the path is clearly marked so ensures a royally safe experience (perhaps unlike that of Charles II). From the Monarch’s Way south of Bristol, you’ll wind up in Wells (15 miles from Walnut Tree Farm), where a cracking cathedral awaits, along with the 800-year-old Bishop’s Palace and its medieval features including a drawbridge and well-kept gardens for exploring.
