Devon or Cornwall, Cornwall or Devon? Settle yourself down at The Old Rectory Caravan and Camping Park, three miles from Tavistock, to explore both with ease. Amenities at this self-sufficient smallholding include toilet and shower blocks, laundry facilities and a washing-up area; there's also a play area with swings and a slide, and animals to meet and greet. There are little extras around too, such as welly loan, a welly and bike cleaning area and plenty of recycling facilities (to keep your stay green through and through). You can also tuck into the free-range eggs, sausages and bacon produced on site, and, when the weather’s right, homegrown veggies fresh from the polytunnel. After dinner, pick up a tome from the on-site book exchange, or get starry eyed at the dark skies above in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you’re bringing your own well-behaved four-legged companion, they can be exercised in the site’s designated dog-walking field.

Gostou A warm welcome from the owners made our trip and the information on the local area was excellent. The location of the site is perfect for visiting spectacular National trust sites and beautiful panoramic views of the countryside. We felt safe on site and the children were able to explore and play freely. We loved the free range chickens and ducks and seeing the other animals on site. The addition of archery sessions for our young son was wonderful. Declan showed patience and kindness as well as sharing his expertise. We would not hesitate to come and stay again.

Não gostou Although I fully welcome letting nature take its course, I felt that some areas such as pathways and benched areas would benefit from some weeding as they were overgrown.

Gostou Decent size pitch, ours was a hard standing.
Site overall well set out with lovely views
Showers clean , warm with hot water
Warm welcome by the owner and metered electricity means you pay for what you use.

Não gostou Shower block reminiscent of a 1990’s French Aire BUT they were warm to go into, the water hot and very clean .
If the site is busy queues could easily form due to there being one Female shower and a disabled use one. There were 2 male showers.
We tried to access the wi fi but it wouldn’t accept the password but we didn’t really need it for our 2 day stay.

Gostou Lovely quiet site. Declan the owner was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the local area, everything we needed was available on site - very close to Tavistock (4 miles) and the Tamar Trails within 30 minutes walking distance

Gostou Good pitches, well laid out with nice hedges to separate areas, great views. Quiet site.

Não gostou The shower block is really poor, only one toilet and shower in the ladies and a disabled toilet and shower in one. If the site was busy it wouldn’t be good. It is clean and functional but very old and basic and creepy at night! The site was practically empty when we stayed and we have our own facilities so wasn’t a game changer for us.

Gostou Lovely campsite with great views. Loads of good walks straight from the park. Everything you need on site. Very friendly and helpful owner.

Gostou Convenience of being close to family in the area. Owners were very helpful and friendly.

Não gostou It was a small site which is good but there were 2 of the pitches already in use by what looked like long time Campers. Both of them men and I'm a single female. When I arrived on both days, one of the men came out with his 2 dogs to walk them in front of me. He was out and back very quickly, no exercise for the dogs etc so it appeared innocent on day 1 but on day 2 it looked like a dominance behaviour although it did not intimidate me, it may have done so to others. When I returned to the site 2nd night, the other male had parked his van on my pitch so the owner had to ask him to move it. He did move but not alongside his outfit, he put it in the entrance to the dog walking field. Not a car parking spot. The 2 men behaved as though it was there private campsite, using every empty pitch for their vehicles and being awkward when asked to move them.

Gostou Beautiful views, access to Tamar trails cycle route and proximity to Tavistock. Great location for the Dartmoor area.

Não gostou Water for showers could have been warmer as we stayed on a very cold weekend. The campsite owner was going to look into that as this was their first winter season.

Did someone say cream tea? Of course they did, for the market town of Tavistock, three miles away, is the home of this most English custom: the only quibble you might have is deciding whether it's clotted cream or jam to go on your scone first. As well as the cream teas, history buffs with have plenty to explore about the town, which has World Heritage status as it sits just on the edge of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. Horrible History fans can step back in time too at Morwellham Quay (two miles south of the park), a live-action Victorian museum with a historic village, port, copper mine and railway. The site is 10 minutes' drive from the edge of Dartmoor National Park and 25 minutes from one of the Dartmoor visitor centres at Princetown. Also within easy reach are the Tamar Trails activity centre, less than a five-minute drive away, and Maddacleave Wood and Gawton Gravity Hub (an intense 500-foot mountain bike descent trail), within a couple of minutes. Trethorne Leisure Park, about half an hour’s drive north, has something come rain or shine, including dodgems, soft play, farm animals, bowling and crazy golf.
