Have a secluded and hidden away stay at peaceful and rural Ashbourne Woods near South Brent in Devon, in a range of accommodation to suit all outdoor holiday sorts. The site is set on 68 acres of woodland set around a growing forest with accommodation areas carefully laid out by the helpful and friendly owners, and is a mere 10-minute stroll from a cosy and rather fab eleventh-century pub. And as befits a rural and tucked away site such as this, campfires are encouraged here, so bring along the sausages and marshmallows for toasty evenings under the Devon stars… Ashbourne's main camping area has a shared fridge for essentials and a communal fire area, as well as water facilities, toilets, hot showers and a laundry/washing up area with hot and cold water and coin-operated washing and drying machines. Pups are barking up the right tree at Ashbourne Woods too – they’re welcome across the site and accommodation types, and the two and a half miles of dog-walking tracks nearby will make a stay for pooches here anything but ruff.

Gostou Beautiful site. Our second visit. Very peaceful and beautiful views . A 40 minute walk to the city . Caught the train from St Thomas to starcross and walked to Turf locks. 3 mile each way . Then Taxi back from st Thomas. Fire pit in the evening to watch the sun set . Perfect.

Gostou Amazing place! Loved the grounds, hard to believe it's only 26 years old.. facilities where clean plenty of snacks and drinks and logs at the little shop if needed.. no complaints here

Não gostou Dogs have to remain on leads.. I completely understand why. we are very aware that some dogs are aggressive and some people don't pick up after their dogs which ruins it for everyone and that is the case here.

Gostou Fabulous, friendly welcome, lovely, spacious pitches where fires are allowed ( safely within the supplied fire pits. Nice little shop area selling essentials , good, clean wash area.

Não gostou Not sure how full the wash area would be in the summer as there aren't that many showers for a very big site.

Cabana

Gostou The cabin we stayed in was lovely it’s our 2nd visit there. Not very busy. Comfortable bed. Immaculate surroundings.

Não gostou There was no toaster even though this was listed on the advert.

People with dogs off lead running around. 2 dogs even ran straight onto our pitch and upset our dogs before charging at us. The owner didn’t really care and said it was allowed and that she’d asked the owner of the site. However, I was under the impression dogs must be on-lead within the site, which is why we chose to stay there. If this is the case then another sign stating dogs must be on leads would be an option, at the bottom of the drive? If dogs are allowed to run around we may have to consider other accommodation.

I'm sorry that your stay was not enjoyable this time, i was unaware there was no toaster in there, i will speak to the man that deals with this. I'm also unaware who that lady spoke to as i have never said that dogs can run anywhere, we do say that dogs can be off a lead out of the main campsite area, but must not enter other peoples pitches , as the owner i do care very much about this as i am very aware that people must keep an eye on there dogs in-case they mess and people walk it into there units, which we did have the other weekend and i find this disgusting behaviour!!! also as a dog owner myself i know how not all dogs get on and that not all people are dog lovers,

Gostou Everything about Ashbourne woods is perfect. We stayed in our campervan with an electric hook up with our two small dogs. The woods are beautiful and the pitches for tents looked fabulous in amongst the trees. The facilities are good and kept very clean. Staff are friendly and helpful, and there is a fantastic pub about a 15 minute walk away in Rattery.

Tucked away needn’t mean being stuck for things to do… Set in the South Hams on the south coast of Devon, the campsite is just off the accessible A38, 10 miles from the sea and less than a mile from Dartmoor National Park. Half an hour’s drive away is Compton Castle, a manor with orchard-filled gardens for apple-y ambling around, while the National Trust’s Church House on Dartmoor is just over a 20-minute drive north. For active types, horse riding and sailing can also be jumped upon around Dartmoor and on the coast. Cast a line to Hatchlands Trout Farm, just ten minutes by car, for fly fishing on the well-stocked rainbow trout lake, or try the coarse fishing also available in the surrounding areas: ask the Ashbourne Woods team to point you and your rod in the right direction. As well as the nearby beaches to treat and tire out, day trips to keep little holidaymakers happy also include Pennywell Farm (less than five minutes away) where animal fans can snuggle the pigs, collect eggs, help feed the lambs and even try their hand at milking the goats; Woodland Family Theme Park for daredevil youngsters (just 30 minutes away), with rides, falconry display and zoo farm, and Staverton Steam Railway, the first choo-choo-choice for little locomotive fans.
