Setting forth for the Lake District to seek out some scenic views? Settle in to Seatoller Farm and you can start on the scenery-seeing without so much as moving from the site. At this family-run working hill farm in Cumbria, the views are stunning whichever way you turn, taking in vistas of the Borrowdale valley and the River Derwent. At this back to basics site, there’s no wifi or phone signal (except Vodafone in Seatoller itself), so switch off and embrace the wild feel. When you roll up, there’s no reception, so pick out a pitch. Owner Daniel comes around in the morning and evening to check on guests, but they’re not always in the house. Every Saturday night (between 6pm and 8pm), stone-baked pizzas are sold on the farm. Take it back to your tent or tuck in inside the seating barn. Tasty toppings include the site’s own pork and Herdwick lamb. Also up for grabs at the farm (or from Dan on his rounds) are rare breed pork sausages, Herdwick lamb and mint burgers or logs and kindling. A nifty central location in the Lake District National Park means this site is well placed for lots of walks, including scrambling up Scafell, ticking off the Wainwright fells or a leisurely riverside ramble. Protected woodland runs along one side of the farm, with wildlife like bats, buzzards, woodpeckers and owls among the site’s frequent visitors. The low-key facilities preserve the relaxed rural vibe – separate gents’ and ladies toilets are close to the pitches, as are washing-up facilities and drinking water taps; showers are a short walk away at the main farm building. Campfires and barbecues are allowed here, but only if they're kept off the grass (you'll immediately be asked to put out any fires that burn the grass). There are a couple of pubs about a mile away for food and drinks, and a hotel five minutes' walk away for drinks on the terrace. The campsite has excellent access to the local bus service that runs regularly from the farm during the season.

Gostou Great location, regular bus service to and from Keswick (every 30mins or so) which stopped right near campsite. Very peaceful spot near a little stream. Some really nice walks nearby and also easy to take bus to catbells/keswick/buttermere. Facilities were all very well kept and clean with proper toilets and showers (no porter loos !!). Plus they had free WiFi to connect and check weather/hikes/bus timetables. One of my favourite campsites in the lakes so far :)

Não gostou Showers were slightly confusing to find but all good once found - maybe add a map to showers in the check in email? But this was a very minor inconvenience. Overall lovely stay :)

Gostou Set in some spectacular countryside!
Daniel met us as we arrived on site and was welcoming and informative, letting us know which pitches were most likely to suit our requirements. We met him again in the farm’s coffee shop, which currently only opens on weekends, and he kindly offered to deliver items to us if the shop was closed.
Even though the toilet and shower facilities are basic, they do the job and there was hot water when we needed it.
By no means busy, there were quite a few visitors on site, and our 2 night stay was peaceful and serene (except for the midges).
We didn’t use the local bus service but its frequency and proximity might be very useful for other visitors, particularly on Mondays and Tuesdays when the village pub / restaurant is (apparently) closed.

Gostou Excellent location and pitches were spacious for a large tent (5x4m in my case). Didn’t find it boggy like other reviews. Easy to find with supplied gps co-ordinates in instructions. Toilet and washing up block within easy reach, showers a little trek, but they are open about this. Easy walk down road to Seathwaite for start of Scafel walk. Despite what they say, I did get reasonable 4G reception on EE. Loved the local sheep and that they sometimes wander through the site. Lovely staff too that came round to check in on everything.

Não gostou Men’s toilet block only has one cubicle (ladies has 2) toilet, which gets busy when there are a lot of pitches booked. Also, hot water wasn’t working in washing up station when we went to use it in evenings. Shame some people don’t abide by keeping fires off ground and a few of the pitches had camp fires dug into the pitch.

Gostou Location, peaceful atmosphere and also the owners they were so welcoming and friendly & the pizzas were delicious too. Plenty of walks from the campsite too which is a bonus and the bus into Keswick runs frequently too.

Gostou We had a lovely stay at Seatoller Farm Campsite in the Lake District. The campsite is set in a truly picturesque location, surrounded by stunning scenery that makes it a perfect place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

The showers are about a five-minute walk up the road near the farmhouse and shop. Some people might see this as a slight inconvenience, but the walk itself is beautiful, with incredible views all around, so we didn’t mind it at all.

The pizzas on Friday night were absolutely delicious and a real treat after a day of exploring. We also visited the Yew Tree Pub, which has one of the loveliest beer gardens we’ve come across, with the river running along the back – a perfect spot to unwind.

I would highly recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a peaceful stay in a stunning part of the Lake District. It certainly won’t disappoint.

Dust off those hiking boots, for Seatoller’s surrounds are stacked with walking trails to suit all comers, from those seeking a gentle stroll through woodland and across heather-strewn fells to those in search of more vertical challenges. The beginning of a couple of the national park’s top climbs are easy to get to too – Great Gable (an hour and a half) and mighty Scafell (a couple of hours). Roam a little further afield for hikes on Catbells (15 minutes’ drive), around the Castlerigg stone circle (25 minutes) or on the slopes of Helvellyn (half an hour away, and a fine choice for mountain bikers too). If you’d like to have a crack at climbing in a controlled environment, try the via ferrata route at Honister Slate Mine, five minutes away, and worth a stop for an underground mine tour even if you’re not up to clinging on to crags. All sound a little tiring? Less demanding days out include the Lake District Wildlife Park (half an hour) and the sculpture trail at Rydal Hall Gardens (40 minutes). It’s worth knocking around Keswick for a bit too, visiting the eccentric Puzzling Place exhibition and Derwent Pencil Museum or taking tipples at the town’s brewery. Alpaca trekking at Lingholm Estate and Whinlatter Forest are some other splendid days out.
