- Peaceful family-run farm site next to the River Derwent
- Excellent base for hikes: walk to Scafell in two hours
- A 20-minute drive from Keswick and five from Honister Slate Mine
Setting forth for the Lake District to seek out some scenic views? Settle in to Seatoller Farm and you can start on the scenery-seeing without so much as moving from the site. The views from this family-fun Cumbria farm are stunning whichever way you turn, taking in vistas of the Borrowdale valley and the River Derwent, which runs past the site.
A nifty central location in the Lake District National Park means this site is well placed for lots of fab walks, whether you’re up for scrambling up Scafell, ticking off lots of the Wainwright fells or just taking a more leisurely riverside ramble. Protected woodland runs along one side of the farm, so you’re likely to encounter wildlife even just pottering around on site – bats, buzzards, woodpeckers and owls are among the frequent visitors.
Facilities on site have been kept low key to preserve the relaxed rural vibe – separate gents’ and ladies toilets are close to the pitches, as are washing-up facilities and drinking water taps; showers are a short walk away at the main farm building.
Campfires and barbecues aren't allowed here, to avoid stray sparks causing trouble in the woods, so if you need to warm up after a walk it’s a fine idea to wander down to the nearest pub a mile away, for drinks and dinners. Alternatively, guests can also stick around at AppleJacks, the on-site restaurant, which serves breakfasts, homemade cakes, wood-fired pizzas, homemade dishes, and lamb burgers – grab a table in the barn or take away for a feast elsewhere around the site.

Will definitely recommend, and will be returning!
From the manager...
Thank you for your lovely review ..... We don't say on pitch up we have a farm shop ... so I'm unsure about this, but I will check it out. We do have a craft barn which sells our craft products, however this hasn't opened this year due to Covid-19 and not being able to staff the guidelines that were put in place for us to open it, whilst having the food barn open, campsite and cottage. We have put this info on our website to pre warn people that the craft barn isn't open until further notice.
We hope to see you again in the future, when things are back to normal.

Dust off those hiking boots, for Seatoller’s surrounds are stacked with walking trails to suit all comers, from those seeking a gentle stroll through woodland and across heather-strewn fells to those in search of more vertical challenges. A couple of the national park’s top climbs are within hiking distance here – Great Gable is an hour and a half away on foot, and mighty Scafell a couple of hours.
Roam a little further afield for hikes on Catbells (15 minutes’ drive), around the Castlerigg stone circle (25 minutes) or on the slopes of Helvellyn (half an hour away, and a fine choice for mountain bikers too). If you’d like to have a crack at climbing in a controlled environment, try the via ferrata route at Honister Slate Mine, five minutes away, and worth a stop for an underground mine tour even if you’re not up to clinging on to crags.
All sound a little tiring? Less demanding days out include the Lake District Wildlife Park (half an hour) and the sculpture trail at Rydal Hall Gardens (40 minutes). It’s worth knocking around Keswick for a bit too, visiting the eccentric Puzzling Place exhibition and Derwent Pencil Museum or taking tipples at the town’s brewery.
